I posted about this a few months ago but then my computer crashed before I could implement the suggestions and I can't find the thread in the archives so here goes again.

I bought an ipod when I didn't have a computer and got a friend to put a few tunes on it for me. now I have a computer and was wondering if anyone knew of a way in which I could add too my ipod without deleting all the songs already on it

try this http://tinyurl.com/lppfq. create a folder and copy the contents of your iPod with iPod folder to the new folder. when done add the new folder to iTunes and away you go. if you set iTunes to copy tracks to the iTunes folder all your tracks will be saved and you will have a backup as well.

I'm sure that those songs were given to you as well as being transferred to the iPOD. i.e. They're legally yours, riight?

    If so: As per FAQ

There is a free software download called podutil which if you google you'll find. You can download it for free and it allows you to upload songs from ipods onto a computer. There is a €10 credit card registration for the software which is worth it because otherwise you'll find the software prompting you to register it after you've uploaded every few songs that can become irritating after a while.

Obviously it shouldn't used to upload songs onto your own computer that don't already belong to you and this software reminds you of this every time you hit copy.

just change your settings so that your pc doesn't automatically update your ipod this will give you a chance to save your old songs. took me a while to figure that out and now my pod is broke! no use to me anymore. hope it's some help. peace out!

I have a question along the same lines as daithimac. I dont have an ipod but thinking of getting one soon. I'm just woundering if i plug it into my laptop can i go into "my computer" on the laptop, can i add and take files off it that way.??? as most storage devices allow you to do this.

if it is possible it would save daithimac from installing more software onto his pc.

You can add/delete files as you would on a storage device like a pen drive or external hard disk drive.

But not quite the same with adding/removing music that can be played on the iPOD.
if it is possible it would save daithimac from installing more software onto his pc.

If you read the suggested solutions, one of them is to access the hidden folder which contains the music (via My Computer -> iPOD -> iPod_Control -> Music IIRC)...

    I hope this helps.
