Confused about camera bag

I'm dying to get out with my camera lately and discovered that a bag I wanted to use might actually be waterproof.
The only thing is I'm not sure exactly how waterproof it is.
Bag is Lowepro MicroTrekker 100 and is made of water-resistant 600D TXP and 600D TXP ripstop.
I'm concerned as it hasn't got the letters AW with it ,what exactly does the term All weather mean in relation to Lowepro bags???
I have a Nova 5 AW also ,but it's far to big for cycling or long walks.

The AW means there is a shower proof cover included ... it usually pulls out from below to cover the entire bag. I suspect the materials of the bag are essentially the same ... but you can check this on their web site.

The all weather cover is completly different material ,it's a light nylon type material ,the bags are thick almost canvas type material.

Do you have these bags yourself leinster?

EDIT : website states both bags i have are made from the same material ,but the nova bag has an AW cover.

I have the Rover II AW ... the AW cover comes out of a pouch in the bottom of the ruck sack ... have a look at this thread for more info -

    http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=2054901821

By same material I was referring to the bag itself rather than the cover ... I also have a Lowepro TLZ AW ... the cover on this one comes out of the front pouch.

I have used the both in rain storms ... and can recommend ... the important word is "Shower Proof" .. like anything they will eventually let in but they can take a good beating.

So basically leinster your telling me the lowepro bags aren't to be used in the rain if they haven't an AW cover.

Thats really i want to know.

I'd say from personal experience you would get away it in light rain without the cover ... but you need to keep an eye on it ... if the rain is sustained or heavy then I'd be very careful ... but you can always improvise a AW cover with a plastic bag ... or keep all your gear in plastic bags inside ... even the AW will eventully let in ... but it can take a good bit of rain before you need to worry ...

If you are really concerned then you need the DryZone Rover ... if the picture of the guy climbing through a waterfall with it on his back on the current edition of Outdoor Photographer is anything to go by ... it is even "bouyancy certified" ... whatever that means ??

thanks leinster ,I had a look at the dryzone rover ,seems like quite a bag.

Lowepro got back to me with the same question I put here and i got this reply

"They are not waterproof. They are water-resistant.
The Added AW cover can be pulled out of its storage pocket to add an
    additional layer of water-resistant protection."

So I guess their bags aren't sponges ,they're dish clothes.

I was getting annoyed because from a review I read i was under the impression the AW cover was for keeping sand away during sand storms.

The AW works great in the desert ... had it in Wadi Rum in Jordan and White and Black deserts of Western Egypt recently ... but the AW is by no means made for extreme rain conditions ... works good enough for most Irish weather .. The AW cover looks a bit like a good quality wind sheeter jacket ... not quite Goretex but not too far off ...
