I bought a game from play.com. Prices were shown in £. There was a button to browse in €. The game was £17.99. When I changed to € it was €28.99. But £17.99 = €26 at current exchange rates. I bought it in sterling. Will I get charged €26?

You will get charged €26. Just for anybody else who buys things off play.com, don't set the currency to Euro's... or any other site for that matter. Play.com are the worst for doing that. Great site to buy stuff off, their currency conversion rates are the only thing I don't like about them, but just leave the currency as Sterling and you're fine. Other websites just round prices up to the nearest Euro but that doesn't seem to be enough for play.com, they have to add on 2 or 3 Euro for some reason.

According to XE.com, £17.99 = €26.12. That is the market rate which you will never get with transactions through your credit card. Your credit card provider will charge you a rate and then commission which will probably bring the cost closer to €27 - €28.

Play give a terrible exchange rate. Only use it as a guide line if you are too lazy to check XE. The real cost will be inbetween the too as glasgo mentioned. However cd-wow give a great exchange rate so always convert to euros when on the uk site. and always use discount links or vouchers since they are ALWAYS available
