I'm hoping to buy a new 19'' LCD monitor soon so I have been looking around the net. From what I can gather none of them seem to be an great "all rounder".They either seem to be aimed at Gaming or multi media.I will mostly be using it for gaming but I do a fair bit of Photoshop work and watch tv shows I download. So what would be the best all rounder to get.I have kinda decided on the Samsung 19" LCD Syncmaster 930BF.So is this a good choice or is there a better screen at around the same price with a really low response time.Komplett seem to have the best deal at 352 quid, are they a good site to buy off as I have never bought off them before.Does this monitor come with the DVI and VGA cables or will I need to buy them?

Also one thing Im worried about buying a LCD is dead pixels.Whats the chance of getting some on a monitor and what way do I stand with returns if I do?

That samsung is more than enough, at 4ms response time its nearly on the cutting edge. Plus I can't see how one screen would be better for gaming and not CAD? The only major difference between TFTs is their ability to reduce glare. If its a work computer you want to have more of a matt effect (i.e. like paper) for gaming i guess you'll want the digital vibrance. You'll be able to use a gaming monitor for CAD, just it won't be so easy on the eyes to stare at all day.

Displays can be better than others particularly in the realm of colour accuracy as displays with a low response time often use a 6-bit panel this means less colour accuracy with the display as they can only output 262,144 colures and must use dithering to achieve 16.2 million colours. An 8-bit panel can produce 16,777,216 [16.7 million] colours so to someone if they really work with graphics a lot that could be a big deal.

As low response time LCD displays continue to evolve some get better than others at countering the colour accuracy issue. Choosing one is a difficult choice you should read over this LCD buying guide forum thread at Anandtechs it is pretty good. You can see the 930BF also is mentioned if you scroll down through the list it appears to have some issues though they are disputed and uses a 6-bit panel. There are some other display recommendations in that thread as well for different types of activities.

    Thanks for all your advice

I was looking at this monitor alright,it seems to get good reviews and is a great price but it doesnt have a DVI imput which is a bit off putting.
Its a though decision what one to get with them being so expensive,I just want to make sure I pick the right one

That Acer is decent,a friend has one,i went for the 19" Samsung 4ms last month and it has better image quality than the Acer.
I cant fault either tbh but the Samsung is just stunning.
I too bought from Salvastore and yeah i agree they are excellent to do business with.

I'd say if you can, unless you are a superhardcore gamer, go for the Dell 2005FPW widescreen flat panel monitor.

Buy it over the phone and negotiate a discount and you should be able to get it for less than 600 euros with, most importantly, a 5 year replacement warranty.

It's a great screen and the colours are fab.

Thanks to everyone for their advice.I checked that buying guide that 8T8 gave a link for and then followed it up by looking at a few more guides and gave up on the idea of the Samsung screen. In the end I went for the Viewsonic VX922 from Savastore. It got great reviews so fingers crossed. All panels seem to have lots of Pros and Cons and you could spend forever trying to decide.I'll post back in a few days with my opinions on it.
