Double Insulated Lighting / Rewiring

    Hi All,

Just bought a c. 30 year old house, and have discovered that the lighting circuit is not earthed. We want to replace one nasty fluorescent light (in the kitchen), and, having read a bit on the internet, it seems this is OK provided we use double-insulated fittings (see, for example, http://www.double-insulated-lighting.co.uk/ ). Does anyone know if one can buy these in any of the DIY shops around Dublin (would really like to see them before buying) ? Are they common ?

Also, does anyone know roughly the costs of rewiring the a 3 bed two-story semi (93 m^2 floorspace) ? Think we'll probably get the whole place rewired eventually.

    thanks,

    journeyman

if you're getting a single fitting you're basically looking for a plastic light.'brio'
are a good 2d light for a kitchen they come in 28watt and 38watt, there's a lot of bad ones on the market. In spots you can go low-voltage or led .the gu10 mains ones are mostly earthed.there's generally no need for a complete re-wire if the house is already wired in grey pvc ,more like an upgrade depending on what it's like
