I was just wondering if anyone knows why Diageo constantly has ads on to tell people to "Drink Sensibly"....

Is it out of their own moral stance or do they have some sort of arrangement with the government or courts or whatever???

Basically... Do they have a conscience or a community service order?!

I do think its a "by law" type of thing.

All the drinks companies now put a drink sensiby or responsibly tag on their adverts. Its not in their interest to see things as they are with some mindless people.

Diagio though took it upon themselves to produce sensible drinking adverts which do not advertise any of their products. Its not a requirement on them and it is a goodwill gesture. Again, while sales are definately up for most companies, binge drinking isn't in their interest long term.

Ironically, most drinking problems are now caused by shorts and especiall alcopops and cocktails which are not very well legilated for.... Diagio do not manafacture or distribute these.

And in case you are wondering, I work in a Bar and not for Diagio.

It's not a legal requirement here (yet), but a "social requirement" as our alcohol abuse problem kept the front pages busy a few years back (and continues to do so).

On the point of a "goodwill gesture", I think the below piece from Wiki sums it up how those in the business really see it:
    Wikipedia wrote:
Many campaigns by the alcoholic beverage industry that advocate "responsible drinking" presuppose that drinking for recreational purposes is a positive activity and reinforce this the pro consumption message of the industry.
binge drinking isn't in their interest long term
The image of binge drinking isn't.... the increased profit margins generated from increased sales and consumption ("binge" in some cases) is definitely in their interest.

Wish they'd put the money into lowering the cost of the drink instead .. I'll drink how I want to drink.
