This is one I wrote outside a cafe in San Diego whilst sipping a cup of coffee. Not my best work, but I consider them to be good nonetheless

    Notes to a Loved One

    These eyes have seen death,
these eyes have seen diseases and famines,
these eyes have seen acts of terrorism
these eyes have seen war and starvation.
    And yet …
    these eyes have seen things of beauty;
The beauty in a new-born’s eyes
the beauty I see when I look at you.
    No diseases or famine
No acts of terrorism or starvation
can ever take that away from me.
Your beauty is as eternal as
    the stars at night.
Your smile is as golden as
    the sun when it rises.
    Your name shall forever echo
in the depths of my soul.
When I look at you and see all this
there is only one thing I can think of
    there is only one thing I can say;
    I love you

    II

I am like a caged bird
with its wings wrapped in twine.
Cut these binds with your kiss,
Let your love by my key
    And release me, my love,
release me from this cage and
let me fly. Let me join the
    Angels in the Heaven above.
Let me see the beauty you see
    everyday through those
    Angel-like eyes.
I want to be able to awake
    every morning beside Aphrodite
To be able to soar high
    over the clouds.
    Take my hand in yours,
    Let me wrap my arms
    around your winged body.
Kiss my lips so softly that I
could swear it was the air itself.
    Fix my bandaged wings
    and let me fly.

i like the second one, its a bit cluttered with images and not the kind of poetry i like , but i liked the theatrical way it was written. i would reccommend a slightly simpler more readable and then more potent attempt.

but oh my god if theyre the same poem its all a bit claustraphobic for me
