Aldi Camera

    Hi folks,

Could any one tell me if this is any good?
    http://www.aldi.ie/special_buys/product_111.html

It's only €80 so I was thinking of getting it. Usually I use disposable cameras so I don't really have use for features like optical zoom. And I'm on a very tight budget at the moment!

Last digital cam I bought was a "Trust" camera got €100. The flash was very, very poor and the battery life was terrible.

I don't want to make the mistake of sacrificing cost for quality again, but some people say Aldi cameras are very good. Any comments? Does any one know if this camera is a decent make but only re-badged "traveller"?

    Thanks

It seems grand, but like...I guess you get what you pay for really.

At €80 you can't go too far wrong though.

Yeah they're meant to be very good for the price. Almost certainly light years ahead of your Trust camera.

Try googling for 'traveler digital camera aldi'.

The first thing that jumps out is "Takes SD cards up to 512MB"... Still, not a major killer.. for €80.... *shrug* why not? I'm sure you could always sell it on without making much of a loss. (morals shmorals)
Damned if I can find a homepage or spec....

It looks like a dog to me, tbh. Do a search around here and you'll find far better ways to spend €80...

The reviews for them on the web are generally very good, especially as regards the price. The model is dc-5080. Specs are here (German)

According to Aldi leaflet it comes with lithium-ion battery+charger, pouch & tripod.

I say go for it, considering you are on a budget.

If you're just looking for something to take snapshots or pictures of friends or whatever with that'd do you grand but if you're very picky about quality or want to use it for some "proper" photography (for want of a better phrase) it'd prob be pretty weak. I got an Aldi Traveler digital camera a couple of years ago, a different model obviously, & it's grand for snapshots & everyday stuff (it also helped me get into photography actually, then I got a decent camera).

Having a small digital also meant I could do my own passport photographs, ones I'm happy with, for dead cheap rather than pay €6 for 4 **** ones :D

Well that was a waste of time. I thought I was doing well getting there just before the shop opened. The place was packed with hundres of people. Not a hope of getting them.

I asked my mother to buy me one as I work 9-5.30... turns out Aldi gave out tickets to people queuing even before the shop opened, so when mam sauntered in after 9 they were sold out.

I got the camera. Started queing at 8:50 and got oneof the last ones. Everybody was buying them and many got nothing. It is good. The pictures are great quality and the internal memory supports 33 HQ pixture which isn't bad. The battery life is fantastic and the movie function is good although quality is average. On the box it says supports Sd memory cargs up to 1 GB even though it was advertised as 512MB. The transferring of pictures to computeris fast and i haven't installed the software that came with it yet. It is very user friendly which I didnt expect! The zoom function is bad. It doesn't actually zoom it justs zooms after the pictures is taken. All in all it's great for €79.99
