Is there anyone that can point me in the right direction to find the lost data on a removable hard drive. I have I am running windows XP sp2 I have no problem reading from any but one of my removable hard drives. When I boot with the bad one installed windows does not recognize it as a full disk but instead asks me if I want to format it. The files on the disk are pretty large but I dont have their names. I have gone into disk management but am worried that if I do anything the data on the disk will be gone for good. it is a 200Gig disk full of family stuff

PC Inspector File Recovery [freeware] did a good job for me when an external Maxtor HD when kaput, Windows would not read the contents of the drive but this program did and I was able to recover 90% of the data. Whether it will do the same for you I couldn't say but it is worth a try.

Nice tip there 8T8, this looks like a good, free alternative to EasyRecovery pro.

    Thanks Guys
There are two things about the PC recovery software. One I'm not sure what type of files are on the disk and Two it is extremely slow I tried to recover any AVI files and 4 hours later it was 2% complete. I really appreciate the input

Yes these programs can take some time to recover the data but the simplest thing to do would be to recover everything and leave it to it. Of course the speed problem could be related to something wrong with the HD or the file system it is tricky to say, it took me a while to get everything back at least several hours from 250GB HD.

If these avi files are very large you could always leave them till last to recover.
