In and around New York

    Hi,

We're heading to New York on Monday (Mrs Culchie's brother lives there, so accommodation is sorted) for about 10 days.
We've been a couple of times before so we've seen the main tourist attractions.
They'll be the obvious shopping expedition:rolleyes: , Paddy's Weekend festivities:D hic so it will be great.

Just a little concerned that 10 days is a bit long and might 'get under the feet' of our hosts ... so I'd love a recommendation of somewhere we can hop on the train from New York and stay away for a couple of nights, just to give our kind hosts and give everyone a little space.

    Any suggestions?

Boston is only a couple of hours away. Nice city, more relaxed than NY. A day or two in Boston is loads of time.

    Yup boston is good.
Hire a car and travel around outside the city-you could even drive to Boston

Also get a flight down to washington and see the sights there.
A return flight with flight times around an hour at €100 or so is doable.
You could leave la guardia at 9am and take the tube into DC from the airport and get a return flight back at 7 or 8pm

I've done that twice and you can see loads of central DC including the whitehouse and congess in the day.

Similarally you could take a flight up to the niagra falls on another day for about the same money and a similar flight time.
    It's not exhausting :)

Go out to 6 Flags in New Jersey for a day. Some of the best rollercoasters in the world there.
