Found one of these today in the back of an office, but cant get much info on google from it. Its a Sharp PC 5500 ... anyone know the specs on them? :)

Don't suppose it would be worth money to someone... Aparantly some vintage laptops/PC's are making money on eBay... what do ye reckon?

That would get loads on eBay for pure vintage value. Some nerd somewhere will want one.

The average computer you buy nowdays is probably about 3GHZ

Thats 3000MHZ and that laptop is 3.6MHZ
Which makes the new computer 833 times faster

Without counting the extra work per clock cycle that newer computers would do aswell.

Fire it up there and get us a SuperPI 1M time for it. Should be ready sometime tomorrow.

    "laptop"?
You'd have to be pretty tall to fit that on your lap.
Still, it'd be priceless to pull one of those out of your bag in a meeting and run some lame presentation on it :D
...before making a call on your 80's brick mobile of course.

Actually, based on that suggestion, what I think would be a great idea would be to take it apart, strip the guts out of it and somehow do a mod-job on it in order to build a modern, kick-ass machine into it somehow. Then pull it out, as you say, during a meeting and wait for everyone to start pointing and laughing at you (the laptop, people, the LAPTOP! Before you all start making smutty comments! :D). Boot it up, load up DOOM 3 or FEAR or some other really high-spec game and start playing away and then see how quickly the smiles are wiped from their faces! Now that would be cool! :D

Okay, I know it's not really a practical option, what with it being a laptop and all, but you never know. It might just, just be possible to do it somehow. After all, we've seen over the years how guys have managed to build modern PC's out of the likes of old Commodore 64's and even original 8-bit Nintendo systems so it might be just about possible to somehow shoehorn modern bits into it. I think if you could it would be really cool and, as I said, a great way to wipe the smiles off some people's faces! ;):D

Sure you could probably fit an entire laptop into the big boxy part to the rear of that monster (maybe one of the really small Sony vaio ones) and hook up a lot of things externally. (ie. without completely gutting the vaio)
tbh I'd be surprised if someone hasn't already done this.
