Odd request to first time buyer from http://www.digiwowo.net/

Does anybody have experience ordering from Digital Wonder World at http://www.digiwowo.net/ ?

I'm a first time buyer and ordered a Canon EF 50mm f1.8 II lens there yesterday (paying with my BOI VISA Credit Card). Today I received an email from them asking me to fax or mail them a copy of my passport or drivers license together with a copy of my VISA card, both front and back side of the card clearly visable!
Their excuse for this was that their bank requested that from any first time buyer to confirm the identity of the buyer. I find it a bit odd and definitely not a very secure way. I've purchased at many online shops and never had such a request before. I did send the guy a copy though, but cloned the last 4 digits and the 3 digit code at the back of the card out of the image and explained him why I did that. Well...if they don't accept the order I'll be ordering the lens somewhere else instead, plenty of options out there!

From reading here I think tecknikdireckt.de do the same.

BHPhoto did the same to me when I ordered my Canon 24-70mm.
Supposed to be for security reasons. You did right clonning the 3 digit code at the back of the card. With that info somebody could use your card almost anywhere in the net.

It's a common enough request in Europe. The banks won't cover them in case of a scam if they don't have those details.

However, generally I'd just show the last 4 digits and the 3 for the security code. They'd be the most important to them to check. Though it may have been the only the last 4 I showed (not sure the CVV thing existed back when I ordered).

Technikdirekt were more annoying though to be honest. They rejected mine a few times and told me they'd only let me block off 4 digits. I wasn't pleased.
