Watched my first show of ufc last night. My question is this if a fighter was to hit his opponient and accidently kill him, what would happen. Please i hope nobody takes this up wrong. I was really just curious. The fighters i seen really got into it and it is possible. Does the U.F.C have guidelines for such an accident. Do the fighters sign a waaver of some sort.

if he is accidently killed, i'm pretty sure he dies.

Exactly the same would happen as when somebody dies in any other regulated sport - boxing, wrestling etc.

Presumably there'd be an inquiry, the commission would look at the pre-fight medical results, look at the coroners report, and draw the relevant conclusions.

But the fights are fast...we all know one strike and it could end it all. "drawing relevant conclusions".. his nose was driven into the back of his brain. what would happen then....

No idea, ran a really quick search, and came up with these stats though
There has only been one death in the sport of MMA, in an event in Kiev, Ukraine in 1998, where American Douglas Dedge fought against doctor's orders and despite a pre-existing medical condition that was frequently causing him to black out in training (US promoters were unwilling to let him compete with his condition). His death is unmistakably tragic, and may have been preventable, but this single death in MMA compares favorably to the death toll of boxing (1,197 total deaths as of January 2004) and even high school football, which averages about 4 deaths per year.

There seems to be a lot of deaths in boxing...

    pro boxing is crazy because:

you got a guy that's dehydrated a lot to make weight
you got a dehydrated guy fighting for 10 round etc. getting more and more dehydrated (you can't take on what you're losing)
you got a ever dehydrated guy getting hit in the head
you got a ever dehydrated guy getting hit in the head for 10 rounds.

at least in mma, you dehydrate, you make weight, you rehydrate a little (like boxing). you have less amount of rounds. you take less shots to the head. you can submit when you get hit too much.

The chances of that are quite slim (and the nose thing is a myth anyway), but google "Nevada State Athletic Commission" (which the UFC is regulated by) and "death" and you'll find plenty of articles on deaths in boxing, the investigations and results.

There hasn't been a single fatality in the UFC yet (in 15 odd years) even before the rules were made more stringent and mismatches were common.

That Douglas Dedge guy fought at an unsanctioned event anyways. I saw that fight - He got hit and hit the mat - Looked like he was in la la land. Next minute he falls and some medical guys rush in. It was shocking to see.

In legit MMA, nobody has ever died. If it's ever to happen, it will be in Pride unless they sort out the stomps on the ground rule.

Why not do some research into deaths in the ring in boxing and see what is governed by the Nevada State Atheltic Comission, or the relevant commission where the fight happens???

What happens if someone dies on the pitch during a rugby match?

Everyone would go bazerk saying "you see its such a crazy thing, not even a sport! ITs barbaric", generally all the ignorant crap people throw around now. Does anyone remember me and JK on the Adrian Kenedy show before ROT 1. It would be like that, and we'd have to keep saying "look at the figures, fishing is the worlds most dangerous sport!".

    Peace

P.S. I love the steven Seegal nose into the brain thing, proper quality. Just like blind faith in GOd gets us straight into heaven, blind faith in the instructor get us into dan-dom.

    It depends:
If it was an accident because of a punch or kick, nothing
If it was because the guy used a dim mak death touch type thingy, well thats just irresponsible. He would get the chair.

What qualifies as an unsanctioned event? It's obvious enough in the US but there are no sanctioning bodies (to the best of my knowledge) here or in the UK. So are the events here deemed unsanctioned?
