Orleans, France

We've got family living just outside Orleans in France who have invited us over to visit during the summer.
    Accommodation is not a problem.
Getting there appears to be difficult though.
They do not have an airport. The nearest one appears to be Tours Loire vally Airport. But alas, this does not seem to have flights to Ireland.
I stand corrected on all of this now.
The nearest convenient airport seems to be Paris, Charles de Gaulle to be precise. What would it be like to drive from here down to Orleans?
I suppose driving from Ireland would be an option too. Over to Le Harve then down.

    Any suggestions on getting there?
    Thanks.

    You're about a 4h30 drive from Cherbourg

2 hours from CDG airport (driving)

or you could get the train (www.sncf.fr) which takes 1h10 from Gare Austerlitz in Paris.

If you plan to take the train, I'd recommend getting the RER B line from Charles De Gaulle to Gare Du Nord, transfer onto the M5 (orange line) to Gare d'Austerlitz, and then onto your train to Orleans

Stayed in Orleans. Nice enough town square and fine cathedral. There was an Irish bar near the river there - could have been called the Shannon or something. Still remember the name of one of the cocktails was Port Saint Patrick Love, and there was cricket gear on the walls!

I've driven from CDG to Orelans before. It's grand. It's Motorway all the way and I don't remember there being too much traffic, but obviously YMMV.
