I'm not really a big fan of the whole toy camera fad, but I have to say used in the right situation the results can be quite intriguing.

I've tried a few lumography actions and filters in the past with no real positve results - but this one seems to work quite well, it's for a Holga look.

I think the results are a bit clean compared to a true Holga shot tho.

I think the whole thing about Holgas is their unpredictable nature and theirin lies their beauty. An automated action in photoshop is never going to match this unfortunatly.

Exactly. There's something about how the holga picks out colours, has moments of being out of focus...the random light leaks. They add a certain charisma to the photos. I bought a few of them a while back, but most people said not to buy them. I've never regretted buying them.

I've been meaning to scan some in and put them up here, but haven't had the chance yet.

    Also, nice photos :)

yep totally agree - but if anyone is interested in getting the Holga look without paying €70 for a cheap plastic camera and the cost of film/developing..use the link, that's why it's posted. ;)

Where can I pick one of these cameras up in ireland?

I've never seen them in shops, but maybe.

Ebay or lumography.com are the only places I know of..

The Gallery Of Photography in Temple Bar was selling them at one stage, not sure if they still do.

www.lomography is your best bet, about 6 day delivery, and over 50 quid is free delivery!

I got the "Plastic Fantastic" pack.

Dying for a seagull now though :(

I know nothing about medium format but these look interesting so I wouldnt mind picking one up. Can any tell me about the availability/cost of getting 120 film processed/printed/scanned in Dublin?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 16,624 ✭✭✭✭Fajitas!

Usually costs about 10 quid to get them developed & printed, but that's in Waterford, I've only tried The Camera Exchange in Dublin, but they've only been able to develop them. I've been told that Conn's and Gunn's will do both though!

Gunnes on Wexford St (opposite Whelans) used to sell Holga's.

No idea if they still do though...

Thanks for the link to holga.net ShayHT. The prices seems better that lomography. Plus they have a polaroid back for the Holga as well as a 35mm adaptor. I think I'm going to enjoy this little camera.

Good luck Beano, BTW Lots of people use outdated film in these cameras, watch out in the camera shops for some. Fuji in Abbey St, had a basket on the counter last week.

7dayshop.com has some great deals on dated 120 film. £5stg for 5 rolls.

Expired film is great actually! Most shops sell it about half price too!

Or putting it in the oven for 5 mins, but it's kinda dodgy! Camera Exchange, Conn's, Jessop's and Gunn's all do expired film AFAIK!

okay thanks man, do u use an exposure meter ? or just kinda go with it, with practice. I know theres only 3 settings on a holga for the apateur but still.
also have u tried color flash or ne filters?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 16,624 ✭✭✭✭Fajitas!

Yup, I have the colour flash model, gets great photos. I'll throw up some with this.

Holga is all about practise, just fire off a shot. There's actually only 2 settings though - bright and dark, though I don't even think there's much of a difference!

Oh, and always remember the B & N settings...can feic up many a shot if it's on B and you didn't notice it.

    Haven't tried any filters yet.

I went for the GCFN. It has a glass lens instead of the plastic lens on the original.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 16,624 ✭✭✭✭Fajitas!

Nice one, let me know how it works out!

The glass lens should take great pics actually!
