A hand from tonight in the Fitz. €100 minimum buy in, blinds €2-€5. The villain in this hand is smart and very tricky. Maybe too tricky but difficult to play against. I have been playing quite tight, haven't shown down many hands at all. He has about €1350 and I have more. I think I have the action more or less right.

9 handed. 4 players limp including villain in MP somewhere, I limp on the button with the magnificent AQ62 double suited. Blinds call, 7 players to the flop. Flop is AA9 no flush draw. Checked to villain who bets the pot €35, only I call. Turn is a 2. He bets the pot €100. I raise to €300. He quickly raises to €1000, with €250 behind.

What do I do here? What do you think of how I played the hand so far?

I call the turn too. Will villain go for it here with 99? Would he lead the flop with A9?

If he is good then he would lead with both 99 and A9. When he leads the turn, however, and you raise, and he RE-raises then he is telling you that he has A9. Its up to you whether to believe him or not :).

He could have AKQJ and figure to have outs if he is wrong, or he could have AKQ9.

You should prolly fold here. I know nothing about villain though, and only one hand beats you .....

What does Villain think of you? He could have AKQ2 or A9xx or 99xx, you should probably fold if he's happy to put the third raise in, or you could embrace the variance and hopefully hit a Q on the river.

Im assuming this was Peter H?

Yes. When I raise the turn he should be almost certain I have A2 or A9.

I think you may have raised/called and won the hand?

    that's besides the question.

You seem to give him alot of respect in your post, I would apply that respect to his betting and lay this one down.

I do have quite a bit of respect for him but sometimes I think he is nuts, and certainly not the best player at that table.

I folded after thinking for quite some time. He showed 99. I don't think he was overplaying his hand hoping I would call with Axxx, rather he was trying to push me off the hand I actually held (it is so much more likely that I have A2 than A9). I didn't consider this possibility when thinking about what to do -- I wondered if he could be pushing something like AKQJ but if he knows I have A2/A9, I thought he would prefer to see the river than try to bluff me off a big hand.

I think it was a very brave push and he picked the right time to do it. What I mean by "too tricky" is he might try this at the wrong time.

I think that you should call the turn and call any river against this guy :).

Cost you probably the same amount. Sometimes you get outdrawn, but you never get pushed off the best hand.

Did he show all four cards? Its quite probable if he didn't that he actually had the A too. I generally try and avoid getting involved in pots with this play for the very reason that he will put you under serious pressure and leave you with some very tough decisions.
