Im thinking of heading to Australia during the summer for a month or 2 with some friends, havent fully decided how long yet. Anyway, we`d love to go to Sydney and see some of the outback aswell and some of the lakes and coasts.
Whats the best way to do this, through student package deals? Can anyone tell me how much i`d realistically need to have for such a trip. Would E2000 do it, or more like E3000? Ive never being out of the country before so am not too familiar with travel stuff. :)

It really depends on whether that takes into account your return airfare and what kind of style you plan on doing your trip in. Also what lakes/coasts/areas of the outback do you want to see?

Im not fully sure what i want to see, or where i want to go. I`d like to see some of the architecture and a city like Sydney but also some of the more country/rural areas.
I think a package deal where the route is more or less picked for you would suit me better. Allowing for the return flight tickets what sort of base cost would i need to allow for. I`d say 6weeks would be enough, maybe not a whole 2months.

It depends on how you are planning to do the trip and where you're plannign on going. Will you be staying in hostels or hotels? Will you be eating your own food or eating out? Australia is a big place, where you want to go will have a big impact on how much its going to cost you. Buy a lonely planet guide and read up on where you want to go, what you want to do.

Going in thesummer especially to sydney could be a bad idea- i was living there last summer and it was quite cold and dreary. Id recommend Flying into Darwin, doing the ayers rock/outback tour for say 3 days and then going back up to Cairns (very hot but bearable) and then making your way down the coast from there, stopping off in all the usual backpacker haunts along the way. End up in sydney then for say a week and you should be able to get in all the sights there. If your only gouing direct to Oz and not stopping off in Asia or anythin Id saythe flight would cost round 1k, you would need around 2.5k for 6wks travelling (staying in hostels and drinking & eating out). The cost of the trips to ayers and the coast can burn the biggest holes in your pocket. Just plan your journey and evrything else in advance. Hope this helps
