Bad injuries in mma at the moment....

    taken from mmaweekly...

The immediate future is not so bright for some of the best champions in the sport. Talk about walking wounded. Chuck Liddell, Rich Franklin, Shogun Rua, and BJ Penn are all banged up after their recent fights.

UFC Light Heavyweight Champion Chuck Liddell will most likely need surgery to repair a dislocated toe that he suffered before his fight while training for Randy Couture. Liddell fought with the toe in the championship fight where he knocked out Couture.

Liddell has been in a walking boot for the past couple of weeks, but now it appears he will need surgery and could be out until August.

UFC middleweight champion Rich Franklin has undergone surgery to fix his broken left hand. Franklin broke the hand in Round 2 against David Loiseau. Franklin had a plate and seven screws inserted into his hand. According to the UFC website, he will be out 6 to 8 months.

Full Contact Fighter reports that Shogun Rua had fractured his elbow in his fight against Mark Coleman and he has ruptured all his elbow ligaments. The Chute Boxe star will need surgery on his elbow and will have to be sidelined for at least six months without training and it's unknown when he will be able to compete full time.

BJ Penn is still waiting to find out if he has a broken hand. Penn told MMAWeekly.com after his fight that he believes his right hand was broken. If it is, he will have to spend some time on the injured reserve until his hand recovers.

Bottom line is the fact that this puts promoters in a tough situation with future fights. The UFC will have to wait quite awhile to see who will be next in title fights for Rich Franklin and Chuck Liddell, while Pride has no idea about the future of Shogun and when he will fight again.

I really hope shogun comes back at 100%, damn i was looking forward to him knocking people out spectacularly for years to come.

If anything i think it gives an opportuinity for people to step up and really cement a number one contender status. Sometimes the UFC can kind of push a Championship fight more on the crowd reaction to a fighter than there ability to hang with the champ.

I can see some good times ahead and the timing is not so bad. With Arlovski's title fight at UFC 59 and Hughes at UFC 60 they are covered for the next two major events with regards to title fights. TUF 3 should start airing around those two events also, so they will but the major events on hold for just a little bit ( or at least they can afford too and still have the name out there ) and go with maybe some UFN's some some of the smaller guys.

All in all, it's a good time for anyone who wants to make a name to step up and cement a shot....Mike Swick anyone?

And also, rumours abound about Jeff Monson Vs Mario Cruz for UFC 60. Now that would be/should be a fight worth watching.

Oh yeah, forgot to add that the also have a Tito Vs Kenny match to do, which i reckon they could main event at a UFC withouth any real problems , and also seeing as they seem to be actively trying to get a LW division off the ground again , that will need someone wearing Gold by the end of the year to be legit in the eyes of the fans.

The HW division i can see being an issue, when Arlovski smacks TS then there is really no one left who can legitimately claim anything, unless Mir does something miraculous.

WW division is fine, if Hughes makes it paste Royce, as in fairness he should, we have a great future match with GSP to look forward to!

Yea it was a weird one, mine was pinched up near the neck, so i had probs turning my head (made checking out the honies way trickier-had to turn my whole body) but it spreads down through the sholder and arms depending on what i was at-sleeping was a prob. Was pretty chuffed with the Chiropracter though, he knew what the prob was straight away...all i had to do was explain what a gullotine was :D
