Lie Detector

Is there any software (preferably freeware if not shareware ) that can detect lies through me talking through my pc's microphone or importing .wavs that I have recorded?

I googled it but every lead I got either was spyware or broken or you had to pay full price i.e. no shareware!

    Any help would be appreciated!

Sounds like a bunch of arse to me. You'd need to analyze more than just someone's voice, things such as heart rate, etc.

Well voice will give away in some instances, likewise you can determine lying by body language as well (which requires no speaking) but if your looking for a professional job then yea hooking up to a machine would do it

You can have a > 50% hit rate with voice (i.e. better than chance), but voice alone is very unreliable. No method is foolproof by any stretch.

You can set up a very basic lie detector without using a computer if you have some wire, electrostatic pads and an ohmmeter (measures the resistance of a current). There is also software out there that records from the ohmmeter but it is not absolutely necessary.

But if you really want to do it it is simple. Just get an electrostatic pad, connect it to the ohmmeter using the wire and put it on someone's palm. If a person is under stress the resistance will decrease, so you'd be looking for a reduction in the levels on the ohmmeter.

The materials shouldn't be that hard to find, the average school would have them.

This works by measuring the conductance of the skin, which increases when you sweat. Palms only sweat in situations of stress. It's a better way than voice measurement but no lie detection methods are foolproof and they are both dubious and beatable. Knowing how to administer the test is important as well.

    Seriously.

... btw you could use the simple method. Get two wires. Tape them to the bottom of the PC and then attach to the person you want to test. Then you sit at the keyboard and have it beep with a red screen saying "Liar" when you hit the keyboard or mouse.

Tell them you ask them some questions which you know are true, and then ask them to lie and press a button. After that just press the button when you think they are lying. Generally gets them. If they were lying they get all defensive while if they weren't then they will be offensive/attacking.
