I have a pair, and love them as they're just sooo comfy, but what does everyone think of them? I know a number of magazines, etc have declared them 'out' but has anybody actually stopped wearing theirs as a result (I know I won't anyway). Also, anybody who was them, what do you think looks best with them?

    Thanks!

people on this board seem to hate them

i think they look shockingly bad especially the way some people walk on the sides of them, but tbh if you feel comfortable with what you're wearing then why should it matter what others think.

the same goes for dubarry's/slipper shoes/*insert any other fashion item here*

totally agree with that, it annoys the crap outa me!

Never got the whole craze about them!!
I think they're awful looking..always did and always will!!

Saw some knack (boy) wearing uggs yesterday. True story.

Uggs are the source of much ridicule for me and my friends. Those and Dubes. If you like them, sure wear them. Just expect to be made fun of!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,983 ✭✭✭✭Hermione*

Since I've been wearing dubes (or decks as we've always called them) since I was about fourteen, I'm used to it to the ridicule! To us, they were just shoes that would look ok with a school skirt, not infringe uniform policy, and at least they weren't as awful as some of the standard school shoes other girls were forced to wear. I guess we just got used to the comfort of them.

Actually, the reason I wanted Uggs, was that I noticed people walking on the sides of theirs and hated it, and they all seemed to be the replica type Uggs, which more people seem to have than actual Uggs  That's one of the reasons why I got them, cos at least with the real thing they'll keep their shape. I don't think they look particularly attractive either, but they're so warm that when I'm walking home I don't really care. :o

Decks are a type of shoe.
Dubes are a brand of decks.

I think that to most people that don't wear them, stupid eskimo fur boots are stupid eskimo fur boots. It really doesn't make a difference if they're the real "ugg" boot or not!

The cheap ones fall apart and you do the ankle walking thing. Ugg Australia ones last. I love mine. I travel a lot so they're perfect for that. I wear mine with everything - straight legged jeans, soft trackies tucked in, whatever I feel like. Don't be a slave to whatever people say you should wear. Be comfortable! I have worn heels twice in the past year. I just prefer Uggs for comfort, especially when going to college. Who cares if you're not wearing Jimmy Choos every day.

Uggs are not meant for outdoor use unless you are quickly popping to the local shop, picking the kids up from school, borrowing sugar from a neighbour or running out to the letter box to collect the mail.
Yes they are warm and comfy, but they are NOT fashion wear or outdoor shoes.

afaik ugg boots aren't furry, (well they are on the inside a bit but not on the outside)

oh and you can wear them outside....they're not glorified slippers u know.

Erm... yeah. You see I'm wearing what I find comfortable rather than what you deem attractive. I don't see what's so hilarious about that. They are also one of the most practical shoes about at the moment. I'm not walking through a building site and walking the 25 minutes to the train station everyday and going up and down 4 flights of stairs at college in heels. Just because it was fashionable at one point doesn't mean that everyone who wears them is a slave. That's like saying anyone who wears jeans or tshirts or hoodies is a slave as they became fashionable at one point. You will not see me wearing a black and white striped knitted jumper or dressing like a sailor.

No there just rotton - not because everyone says so here - just the pure shape of them! There hideous!!
Remind me of something a little old pensioner would wear

i agree with lady lots there, i dont have a pair myself, i which i could pull them off but i couldnt i'm too short for them but i do like the look with soft tackies tucked into them.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,286 ✭✭✭SprostonGreen

Are they the boots that girls are tucking their jeans into?

If so, I'm not mad about them.

As usual I saw some people who think that because they look good on some people, then they'll look good on everyone, they were mistaken.

Hypocrite, what if you found a certain brand of sailor suit that was extremely comfortable and practical?

I love all this crap about "cheap ones" falling apart, such consumeristic idiocy.

Femmy, your reply was quite funny and the exact opposite opinion to the point LadyLotts was trying to make.

It's not crap about the cheap ones falling apart, they do fall apart! It's the cheap ones that lead to the weird walking on the side of your foot thing! The real Uggs have proper soles.

I'm wearing mine at the moment, they're so comfortable. I only wear them with skirts though. I'm not a fan of jeans tucked into them, and absolutely hate them with tracksuit bottoms.

Are you saying that quality and price have no relationship when purchasing an item?

i think they are nice boots, whats so funny about that, i know alot of people who hate them, but i would wear them, if i was a bit taller, i know they dont look good on me but they do on other people.

I don't think it was funny really, just an opinion and if you did found it funny you could have explained your reason in the first place rather that just typing ''HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!'' like a five year old. Also, the part where she mentions ''Don't be a slave to whatever people say you should wear'' is very good advice.

Just because it was fashionable at one point doesn't mean that everyone who wears them is a slave. That's like saying anyone who wears jeans or tshirts or hoodies is a slave as they became fashionable at one point.
Yeah very true. I wear what ever the **** I want and sometimes I happen to like what's actually ''in'' at the moment.

Yes. Price does not necessarily indicate quality.

Meh, I'm leaving this thread, Uggs are only popular due to them being fashion items at one point. Most people will tell you they look horrible, and btw there are many alternative shoes which look better, are cheaper and are as comfortable. Oh but don't listen to me, that'd make you a slave.

I think ugg's are actually horrible too just as bad as those furry tracksuits that were around that came in horrible bright colours.

Got these and these recently but the pink parts are black.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 255 ✭✭nick23

I think (and most other guys ive talked 2 tend 2 agree) that ugg just dont look good unless you're trecking across northern scandinavia in full snow gear

Both of which aren't that comfortable and bad for your feet at the same time. Nice

When did I mention anything about comfort? They are very comfortable actually and definitely not bad for my feet. :D

They're meant to be really slippery and don't support your arches at all.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 26,928 ✭✭✭✭rainbow kirby

They really don't look good. Unless you define looking like a yeti as looking good. My little sister absolutely loves hers though... and she's one of the ones that wears them with tracksuit bottoms.
Give me my skate shoes any day of the week.

Cons lead to flat arches. FACT. You just got them so how can you know whether they are bad for you or not.

Never knew that, at least I've given up on my Cons now. They still look all right, but since I discovered Nike made them they've lost their soul.

Wow strange how you dont notice things until some one points them out - like that walking on the ankles of ugg boots thing.its everywhere!

doesn't look too healthy, maybe those insoles with arches might help those of you very attached to your uggs, you can get them in boots.:)

From Wikipedia: "Ugg boots, or simply uggs, is a generic term for a type of sheepskin boot which has been made in Australia and New Zealand for nearly 200 years. They were originally called ug boots or ugh boots, which is short for 'ugly'."

I think that says it all

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,386 ✭✭✭Attol

I think everyone heard that 2 years ago? We know! Not everyone likes them. Shock horror! Not everyone likes Converse, skate shoes, high heels, anything. It's called personal taste.
