SE €50 DC on thursday - discussion question, not advert!

this is not an advert, but a point for discussion

i heard there was 84 players last week at this? i havent been to the 50 DC in a while but whenever i have i have enjoyed it... but someone i know played the game last time out and pointed out how it has become a glorified pub game as this game is surely the next step up for pub game players. Equally, a month or two ago everyone had 3k in chips in a tournament designed to end by 2-3am and there was about 40 runners max, i.e 120,000 chips, now there is 80 runners, all with 3k in chips in a tournament designed to end at 2-3am, with 240,000 in chips... effectively you have half the time to win the chips, which leads to alot of all ins, and all of a sudden the structure begins to reflect that of a pub game??

Surely if they are going to be getting these numbers they should design to tournament to suit it, i.e start earlier, more starting chips, etc. I reckon people who play in the SE looking for a decent structure and standard of play will be returning to (or trying out for the first time) the fitz and the merrion... any thoughts?

change your thinking to "a tournament designed to finish when it's finished". Only you put a time-limit on it, and force yourself into all-ins to finish.

on one hand, you complain about being too many chips in play, yet a moment later you ask for more starting chips?

What you really want is an earlier start time, right?

I think I might make a reappearance at the SE for this tonight. Assuming my flight back to Dub is on time of course.......

Haven't been in 2 months, so will try and improve on my 4th place finish last time out.

2000 + 2000 chips tonight - I like to think I had a little to do with it. Next stop 30 min blinds after the break.... If I were to make it to the break they'd be great like...

P.S. The increased starting chips didn't stop my kings getting cracked twice...but I'm thinking of the long term...;) although online poker tonight may not be very wise!!

I played it last night and got crippled when I had about 8K. Blinds 200/400, I raised UTG+1 to 1600. Folded around and the button moves in for another 4.5k. I insta-call and he has a monstrous A5 of hearts. Flop xAx with 2 hearts and river is a 3rd heart to give him the nut flush. The worst part was the guy looked at me as if he'd made a great call. I don't usually get angry when I play live, but after that hand I was absolutely furious.

In the entire night I think I'd won every showdown. I folded to a reraise once preflop, when I had my hand in the cookie jar with 59o. I'd shown pocket Js, Tens, AK, 2paired JQ, all big hands. I was raising UTG+1. Obviously, table image counts for nothing when you have morons that think A/rag suited is a monster. Left me crippled with 1.8k. Robbed the blinds with J8, then found KJ in the BB. MP raiser, I pushed and he had AJ. Flop was AKQ, but no ten or king meant I was on my way to the cash tables in a stinking mood.

I realised halfway through that the SB on my BB was boards own Fuzzbox. Absolute gentleman, but he was card dead for the whole time on my table and did well to stay alive with some well timed steals. Think he went out with 2 tables left.

Cash tables were alot more successful, netting €800 profit before I left at 4:30, so that helped to erase the memory of the bad beat from earlier.

Funny, I played the same tournie last week (couldn't last night) and although I also usually keep my cool playing poker live or online and treat it as a game, I also lost my composure after being shafted on the river by an absolute beginner. Maybe there is something in the air there?
Still, it is interesting to compare the calibre of player in the Fitz €50 DC and the SE €50 DC...

Variance could easily last a decade in this tournament.

Nick was doing pretty ok when i went.

What table number were you on rounders and what does Nick look like?

Winner had shaved head and glasses, second was a regular SE cash player, dont know his name.

Started on table5 then got moved to table1 where i met my end.
    And you?

Had he got a book and a music gysmo with him too?.
If so he's one lucky sucker. He came to table1 short stacked and proceeded to do nothing other than double and treble up.
A good guy but he made a bit of a annoying comment when i got ko'd.
    I had A9 other guy Q10
a 9 and 10 on the flop and no improvement for me when the river arrived.
"A straight a straight you rivered the straight" he called out to the other guy. Yeah like it makes a difference.

Myself, Fuzzbox and we think Azzeretti were on table 3. See above for my downfall when i was feeling pretty confident of going deep. Fuzzbox then moved to table 2 later on, but he didnt get one hand in the entire time I was at his table and showed some good survival skills when shortstacked.

No I didn't win it. Myself and the guy who knocked rounders out were heads up. At that point there was E2,250 left in prize money. I had 110,000 chips and he had 160,000 chips. We took E900 each, E100 tip for dealers and played for the E250. This loosened everthing up........

    Next hand: 3:40am

Blinds 5,000/10,000. Him small, me Big.
    I had 89s. He raised to 60,000 (Normally I wouldn't call this).
    Anyway I called.
    Flop- 2 6 10
    I check
    He bets 20,000
I felt he missed the flop and was desperate, figured I still had three outs- any 7,8 or 9 would still win it.
I call (I'm now in it for 70,000 with only 40,000 left).
    river- 2
I felt he had none of the board but was going to put me all in anyway. I was pot comited at this point so would have to call. Decided what ever chance I had I may as well get it in first. I bet my last 40,000
He strongly considered but eventually called.
    He had Q3o
He wins with high card- Q

Yep- that's me. Ianmc I don't know what you look like. Were we on the same table at all last night??

No we've played cash a few times before. I was chatting to you the night Liam whats his name won a 1k pot with a full house, another SE regular donating €400 or so of the pot chasing the nut flush draw.

Nick, Ian said the winner had shaved head and glasses. The guy that knocked me out was to my right with hair, a scottish guy?.
So was the guy you were heads up against the balding guy beside you when i departed or the bald guy with the book two seats to my right?.

    P.S
Dont be too modest you practically split the thing. Modesty is frowned on here!

Well done Nick great result! :)

I normally don't do deals because its lets the opponent play too loose if we restructure the prize pool and takes the pressure off him but it looks like you shouldn't do deals because it makes you too loose!! LOL. Anyway well played and considering you didn't join the game until 9.45 I think there might be a lesson in there for me.

lol yeah im going to this a go. I arrived at 8.45 because i fell for what some twit advised because people were apparently left waiting for seats the previous week. Hook line and sinker!.
Forgot to mention well done to you earlier Nick.

    lol

I didn't do it intetionaly- I was driving the VN van (high roof LWB merc sprinter) Finding a parking space in the city for that bad boy is like winning the lottery. Driving around the city from 8:45pm till 9:45pm trying to park:mad:
I eventualy parked at the fitz and took a taxi down:mad:

But ye- it did work out well. I played two hands between the time I entered and the break. I won both pots and then took my extra chips at the break. This gave me 8,500 comming back after the break. Not a bad stack at that time.

I had a very lucky moment when we were down to 7.
I was on the button with 2c 3c. no callers round to me.
    Made a move- "all in".
    sb- "fold"
    bb- "call".
    me- "f**k"
    "on their backs"- me 2c 3c. bb-55
    Flop- JJ9
    Turn- 6
    River- 9
    Split pot.

I felt terrible for the guy.

I love that SE e50 DC tournament. People think that there are too many idiots playing now but out of 80 people if at least half of them are good players then thats all you can ask for.

Some people just don't have the stamina for a 7 hour event (while Sober) and it makes them do stupid things. I think its up to a good player to realise when his opponents are getting tired. Complaining that you get called by a crap player is a poor excuse. I'd rather be up against poor players than world champions.
