Windows Media Player + Snag It

I have a home movie and I was trying to take a snagit picture of a paused frame. When i do the movie section goes black in the captured picture.

Then I 'print screen' and pasted into paint. Once i hit the save botton, the part of media player that shows the movie went black again.

I'm guessing that this is some copyright protection system or similar in XP. This is a home movie btw that was recordeded on a camcorder and finally put together using windows movie maker. Anyone any ideas?

I thought that before, after trying to do the same thing. It's nothing to do with copy protection, it's just how the movie is played.
To fix it, go to -
Tools > Options > Performance > Advanced > Uncheck the "Use Overlays"

The picture will look slightly different, but you'll be able to take a screenshot. :)

Media Player Classic (don't let the name fool you, very advanced media player) can take screengrabs of video being played in it. Just pause the video go to File->Save Image it will then save the current frame as a .bmp to any location you want.

    Having a go now!

Dob- overlays seems to work although I'm logged into my home PC from work here so screen quality is dodge!
