oh bloody hell! ... Cowon A2 faulty already

My 30GB Cowon A2 is gone faulty already :(

Now when I switch it on, the Cowon logo screen comes up but the "system loading" or "checking files" messages at the bottom don't. It sits there for a second or two before popping up a logo comprising of a picture of the A2 and a red circle with a white "X" in it. After a few seconds then it switches off.

It first did this last night, but after playing around with it a bit and pressing the reset switch a few times it actually started working properly again. Now though, this morning, I can't get it to start up.

Has anyone encountered this error before?... more importantly, does anyone know a cure?

I can send it back to the supplier and get a replacement ... but I'd rather not have to as, of course, I'd end up having to put everything back on the hard drive again.

It's dissappointing to say the least. The A2 is a superb little machine.

Is it possible to see it as a USB HD on your PC? If so maybe you could do
    a firmware upgrade.

It wasn't at the time, but after much fiddling around with the PC (while talking live to a Cowon technician through their web site), messing about in Device Manager, uninstalling the USB Root Hub devices, removing all other USB devices from the system and redetecting, I've finally got it back working as a drive again.

Apparently, this could have been caused by me changing the startup logo on the player (!). Now I'm hanging on the line (as such) waiting for the technician to get back to me, not daring to unplug the A2, so he can tell me what to do to avoid this happening again!

    Phew !

Got it working again thanks to a very helpful support technician named "Elias" in Cowon America :D

Apparently it wasn't the logo change that caused the problem (I would have been very surprised if it was). It was caused by the firmware not upgrading properly last time.

I'm sure there's a lesson to be learned here...

OK, I ended up bringing this back to the store today for return to the supplier as it wasn't working again when I got up this morning and this time the hard drive was being identified by the PC as an "UOSHIBA" device instead of "TOSHIBA" and no drive letter was being assigned.

Basically, it's f*cked and has to go back.

    I'll be taking a refund. :(
