I have 2 computers in my house. One is in my bedroom and the other downstairs. Both have a wireless card for the broadband. Can I use these cards to join the 2 computers together on a network, so that I can monitor what is happening on the other computer. Also I need it to share a printer. Both computers are using XP. How would I go about setting up a wireless network?

You already have a wireless network if both computers are connected to the wireless router for broadband. Share a folder on each computer and you should be able to see it in Network Neighbourhood. If the printer is connected to one of the PCs simply share that too and install a network printer on the other.

Monitoring what's happening on one of the PCs from the other is not so simple though I think. You may need third party monitoring software installed.

Well thats what you would think, but i have never gotten this to work. Tried a number of things but the pc's in the wireless network just wont see each other.

What do you mean by monitor other computer?

It's possible that you could set up an ad-hoc wireless network between the 2 pc's as they both have wireless cards. But this might not work if the two PC's are far apart as signal will be too weak. Your wireless card manuals will give instructions on how to set up and adhoc network. Or google will too.

Ideal solution is to use a router (I recommend Linksys WRT54G). What sort of broadband do you have?

Easy to share printer, read this or this.

How would I share the two computers though? I had a look on google and I didn't find anything. Sorry for being annoying, but I am interested in doing this. Can someone give me a basic idea of what to start with.

Do you mean share files and folders between the two computers?
