Ban the use of credit cards for concert tickets

I think the true fans are the people who will queue and maybe camp out for tickets, not the people who have the shinyplastic in their hands.

The credit cards make it easier for touts to sell tickets  at ridiculous prices; do you think a tout will queue up to get tickets

Oxegen would not be sold out if it wasn't for the credit card

So I call on my fellow boardsies to help me ban the credit card for ticketmaster bookings :):)

    Oxegen isn't sold out.

    What is your plan?

Everyone loves a campaign for a just cause, and this probably is a just cause. But i think its doomed to failure. Take a concert at slane for instance. Probably 70,000 tickets are put on sale. Maybe 30,000 (at the most) bought for cash at ticket outlets, the rest bought by Credit Card thru TicketMaster. Ticketmaster have a 5 euro per ticket charge on credit card transactions. Thats an extra (40,000 x 5) 200,000euro per concert taken in by Ticketmaster. I don't reckon they will give up that little cash cow too easy, do you ?
Maybe the fairest way for real fans would be to restrict ticket sales to cash/ticket outlet only for the first 2 weeks after they go on sale, then make whats left available for telephone/internet booking.

Plus, I'm in england. I wouldn't be able to get tickets for concerts in Ireland over the summer otherwise.

Look just because you want to go queue up for hours in the wind and rain and cold doesn't mean that everybody should, and remember touts can queue up too (they have fu<k all else to do)

I, on the otherhand, like dragging myself out of bed 5 minutes before tickets go on sale and buying them with a couple of clicks of the mouse.

And by the way, I am a true fan

Do yourself a favour and stop complaining and get yourself a credit card

Are you forgetting U2 when they had busloads of professional touts coming over to queue up and buy tickets? the true tout will queue since they are buying huge amounts of tickets at a time and do not want to pay €4 extra online for each one. Also I would guess many touts are unemployed so can freely be queueing whereas others would have to take time off work to queue.

I do see where you are coming from. I would like to see more limits on tickets. 2 per person maybe.

There's no point laying the blame on touts for the fact you don't have Oxegen tickets, they were on-sale all day Friday and there was even a presale the week before.

I think we're past the stage where we must queue to secure gig tickets. Since the internet came in now everyone has a fair opportunity of getting them, including "true fans".

That and the fact that booking online leaves a paper trail and your name is plastered on the ticket. I heard stories about the U2 concert that the touts had their kids in the queue and that each of them bought their full allowed allocation of tickets.

Why should I have to queue up when I can just use a credit card from the comfort of my own home? Sucker

Touts have been around a lot longer than the ticketmaster website.

IMHO Banning CCs is a bit like saying "we should use paper because computers hurt my eyes".
That said I agree with the issue of Ticketmaster. They should charge a per transaction fee and not a per ticket fee. Unfortunately that is not going to happen. All you can do is go to retailers who will not charge the exhorbitant fees.

It's not sold out and if it was, what would your reasoning for this be?

€160 for a weekend ticket with camping quiet expensive i think you'll all agree (im not bitching about the price) I dont think there are many people on the dole that can afford that....my point is the majority of the people who are buy tickets have jobs and correct me if im wrong but the what are the chances of 50,000 people getting a morning/day off work to get tickets...fu*k all. This makes it easier for the touts to get hold of tickets where they can go around to different ticket outlets picking up tickets 4/8 at a time.

when paddy powers refuse to take a bet on more being released. When are people and rte who fall for this crap and give them free advertising going to realise that they pull this same stunt almost every year

I can never understand anyhpw why ticketmaster charge €4-€5 service charge on a ticket when paying online relieves them of having to pay box office staff etc. It should lower the cost, not increase it. ANyway, that's another thread. I buy tickets online with a c/c. If you're a student then banks are only happy to give you some shiny plastic to buy your tickets online. Or if you cant be bothered applying, there's always www.3v.ie the handy alternative although their service charges are a bit crap too....

Anyway, in point, a true fan can have a credit card!

someone is bitter because they didn't get tickets... aren't they?

    That doesn't make any sense.
Think before you say each word and type that again, then proof read it.

That doesn't mean you're a true fan, just means you're either under 18, or too poor to be entitled to a CC.. ha ha!! hate that.

The people who queue and camp outside are SUCKERS - nothing more.

And Oxegen wasn't sold out when you made that post - so that also makes you dumb, as well as a sucker.

I notice you haven't replied since you made the topic either...you must have realsied how stupid your topic was.
