BJM have just announced a massive European tour with two Irish dates, 15th May at Belfast Mandela Hall and 16th May at Dublin Vicar Street. Ticket information TBA.

If you've heard of last year's rock documentary Dig, you're probably familiar with these fellas. Should be a good'un.

Great news alright - any idea when the tickets are going on sale?
Should be a groovy night. As long as there are no assholes there trying to provoke a fight.

From what I hear the odds of anything along the lines of some of the stuff in DiG happening would be very unlikely. Most of that was filmed many years ago and while I dont know if Antoine cleaned up or what but hes definetly more amicable these days. They even recently played with the Dandy Warhols. Hopefully some idiots dont attempt to provoke him though because they'll probably just walk off stage.

Finally up on Ticketmaster, €27.50 a ticket. Seems a tad much for a band only just made a name for themselves. Hopefully it'll be worth it.

Oh, and the shows have been swapped around; it's the 15th May for Dublin and the 16th May for Belfast in the same venues.

The Things are supporting as well!

f®eak s©enery - BJM maybe only making a name for themselves in Europe thanks to the film, but they've been pretty big in the States for a while... however, if Anton gets up to his tricks and storms off stage, everyone might feel ripped off after all!

Excellent - set controls for the heart of darkness.... any chance of Joel Gion cameoing on the maracas?

Can't believe I'm missing this. Been listening to Strung Out In Heaven all day, just to torment myself. Let me know how it was

It was good but not great.

First off no one got kicked in the face or punched or anything like that. There were a few hecklers but for the most part Anton ignored them or brushed them off with a sly remark of "behave".

Frankly I was glad nothing erupted and I think we most certainly saw BJM at their best. The band were extremely tight and played impecabaly but after about 40 minutes things began to seem very samey.

I really enjoyed the first few songs because they knew what they were doing and the atmosphere was excellent. The crowd were going wild for Joels mincing with the tambourine and a quick wearing of his trademark glasses. Practically anything Anton did was met with cheers. However there was just something missing from the whole affair that left me not as impressed as I should be. I really do think it was variety.

Having said that the epic though samey song at the end actually quite impressed me. Sure it was 8 minutes of practically the same thing over and over but it was an old school send off to a good gig.

Id certainly give them another look especially at a festival but tonight they werent as good as I was hoping.

the epic though samey song at the end

That would be Swallowtail, one for the fans clearly. Or at least people who know what the songs are called! They usually close off their shows with this and it was cut short from the normal 20 minute rendition.

I thoroughly enjoyed the gig, the band played better than I could have imagined (especially since they were drinking in Anseo until 8 am the previous night), Joel Gion was camping it up a storm on the tambourine and for those fans of Dig! (as opposed to the BJM) there were even some trademark Anton Newcombe outbursts - "I've got a better idea, why don't you go **** yourself?"

All in all thoroughly enjoyable, but no Anemone which is my personal favourite.

The After-Show party seemed like a bit of a damp squib, I wandered off at about 1 - but it was good to exchange pleasantries with AN & JG in person.

I agree with Toast that it did seem a slight bit samey but overall it was a brilliant gig. Great to see Joel Gion on stage too :D

Was it just me or was Jeff Davies playing with them?I was under the impression he had left the band?

Was it just me or was Jeff Davies playing with them

I'm pretty sure it was him. Now all we need is Matt Hollywood.

Can anyone remember anything of the setlist?
