Sky+ on one feed?

I live in an apartment where I have Sky installed through a communal system. Is it possible for Sky + to work off one feed into the apartment? I'm pretty sure that recording one channel and watching another or live pause wont work, but I only want the record function for what ever channel I'm currently watching.

Your theory would be correct. Like you say, you can't watch one and record another. But you can record whatever channel is currently tuned.

Why is it not possible to split the feed from the dish?

Because the cable only carries one quarter of the IF band at once - Hi Horiz, Lo Horiz, Hi Vert, or Lo Vert. The box selects which it wants per tuner.

there are stackers - de stackers done that utilise one cable feed, but they need 2 feeds at the dish obviously.

One thing to remember is when you set a recording for a time your out, you would need to leave that channel on and but the box in standby.
If not you will just get a failed recording.

I'm assuming Watty means that the line could be hi-jacked, with next doors say so of course, and used to implement sky+ properly.

not sure exactly how appartments and satellite work but my appartment has 2 dedicated feeds fpr Astra 2. is this not the same everywhere else where satellite is an option?

most appartments ive worked in have octo lnbs to one dish, its only last year that the managment copped on that sky plus is the way ahead rather than leaving the person with one feed.
So for the 16, 4 dishes were installed.

You can also use a professional distribution system for ANY number of outlets using a single Quattro or Quad LNB to drive it.
