So you have a wireless network and you can get your DS to work with it?
Do you by any chance also have on the same network 2 Windows desktops, a windows laptop and to up the difficulty level and iMac (new one with Intel chips)?
And they all connect no bother?

OK what are you using cause I'm trying to get my house wireless but finding info on routers which talk to Mac, Windows and DS aint exactly common. Hell even a network which lets a DS and Mac use the same network would be nice as finding out if that works with M$ won't be a problem.

    Thanks for any help.

Well on my network at home we've got a Windows PC, my iBook G4, my DS and my little sister's PSP. I've got an SMC Barricade router and I'm using WEP encryption. I wouldn't recommend my router though, it has a tendency to lose its settings if there's a power surge. Linksys do some very good ones too.
Actually, I would say it's easier to get started on the wireless network using the Mac than it is on a Winblows box...

Guessed that just thought the DS, Windows, Mac combo would be kinda minority, I'll check out the barricade and linksys!

i haven't enabled my wep key cause it disables the internet on mylaptop for some reason...

anyone have any idea how to set up the wep key across the networks/?

i think my laptop is getting a wrong ip address assigned but like the ds won't work unless wep is enabled..

Thanks for all the advice, at this point I seem to have worked out that to get a router that works for my Mac and the PCs is easy style so all I really need to know now is:
what wireless routers are you guys using with your DS that was easy to connect to with no faffing about?

Saw that method but why do that if I can get a router that will let every device connect wirelessly with no other device being on?
To be honest I want to buy ONE device I don't have a wireless router at the mo so I'm looking for one which people have that lets them online easily with their DS. I will own three out of four/five devices using the connection and all have built in wireless so I want them to all communicate with the router themselves not through something.

So again I ask what wireless router does everyone here use that when they got MarioKart DS all they did is turn on the DS and were online instantly with no faffing about?

I have a Mac Mini and an XP laptop and they live happily with my psp and a Linksys WAG54gx2. But my DS doesn't like it. It can make the conneciton but thats all.

I previously had a WAG54G and everything lived happily with that...

    Clicky
Afaik this is the one my friend has... they've got 3 laptops and 1 desktop all running Windows XP, a DS and a PSP working on it and my iBook works on the network there too.

i'm using a 3com 3CRWE454G72, which is basically just an officeconnect 11g access point (not a router). i use mac address filtering & wep, and i've no problem connecting 2 x windows xp laptops, 1 x debian linux laptop, 2 x nintendo ds's.

the main stumbling blocks are mac filtering (if you have it switched on) and the format of the encryption key. my key is entered on laptops as a 13-digit "passphrase" (ASCII) which is transalated into hex by the wireless software in windows xp, linux, and the DS, eg. ABCDEFGHIJKLM.

basically, any device which supports wlan b/g will support most wireless devices. the DS just needs to be set up, via WFC in mario-kart for example, to find the right AP name, the right encryption key, and test. works for me =)

Once you are within range of a suitable access point, you can go online. Your router provides the access point for your house, so naturally you won't be able to go online from *that* access point while you're in Lanzarote. If you are within range of an access point while you're there, you'll be able to play online.

ya thanks for the help the place were staying has a router that can be accessed by any computer so its good to know that i will finally get a go at mario kart ds online :D
just out of curiousity whats the distance for routers or does it depend on make because i know the one in lanzarote only goes about 10metres (because the walls are so think over there or something like that)

I'd just like to thank everyone for their help got a Linksys WRT54G and besides some teething(our modem is a router too) it works fabulously for my laptop and DS(iMac turns up on Monday week at the latest and the desktop PC we need to get a WiFi receiver for it but it works wired to the router) So despite what nintendo say I'd recommend the WRT54G I've even got WEP on and SSID broadcasting off.

Good to hear you've got everything going properly :)
You can get a cheap Belkin USB dongle for your desktop in Argos for about 30 euro and that would do for what you need.
