Hi sorry if this is not the place for this but I hope you can help.

I've just moved into an old georgian house (well it wasn't built this or last century) with some friends.
We currently have a desktop PC running Windows XP, another desktop PC which I believe is pre-USB(they only use it to surf the web) and a laptop running XP(with a WiFi Card). We have a router which connects to the XP desktop by usb and then an ethernet cable we move between the other two machines.

This is spread over 2 floors which due to only one phone connection on the top floor and other issues this means there are cables all over the place. So I'm trying to get us wireless.

Now added issues is I'm getting one of the iMacs with the Intel chips and also own a Nintendo DS(compatible with b technology and WEP ONLY). The phone connection is on the same floor as the iMac and above the XP desktop and I'd like the DS and laptop to connect anywhere.

So what I'm looking for is a suggestion about how to get this mess sorted easily and for a reasonable price. The important machines are the iMac, DS, laptop and the XP desktop we'll sort out the older machine once the other 4 are happy.

Thanks for any help in advance.

Wireless router will do the trick. Linksys WRT54G should fit the bill and is a great router to use.

I'm assuming you have a dsl modem, so you can bridge that to the wireless router.

iMac laptop and DS have built in wireless so they're good to go. XP laptop also has wifi so not a prob.

For XP desktop you can either connect to router using ethernet cable. Or get a wireless card (usb or PCI card) for it to connect wirelessly.

TBH, doesn't pose any difficulties, except signal range in the house. Not sure how wireless signals cope with a georgian house.

Thanks I have done some snooping and it looks like the DS is going to be the problem nintendo rate the LinkSys WRT54GC and WRT54GX as 2 out of 5 for compatibility with the DS.
At the moment I'm trying to find out from the guys on the ninteno forum what wireless routers they're using but so far all I'm getting is use this dongle or that thingy. All the devices I'm using have built in WiFi(Mac, Laptop and DS) so I want them to talk directly to the router i.e. when I want to play mariokart on the DS I don't want to have to boot up my Mac or somethings stupid.

But thanks again I think my friend uses a linksys which I was able to get the DS online with just need to ask him which one he's using (well I asked he aint replied).

if the Ds will support access points using WDS you could use multiple routers.

Dont know about DS but WDS will help with the walls
