Was playing in the SE last night and when the dealer was dealing flop he turned 4 cards instead of 3.He wasn't convinced as to which one the burn was so we redealt with the pot intact. Just wondering what the official ruling is

players keep their hole cards, the remainder of the deck is reshuffled and the flop dealt again.

I assume you meant he took back all four cards and redealt the flop. This would be correct and I can't imagine any other solution.

My thinking on it would be that the flop remains as it is as no mistake has been made there. The fourth card is removed for the moment.then there is a round of betting. Then the river is dealt in place of the turn & another round of betting. Then the extra card that had been mistakenly been dealt out on the flop is mixed with the remainder of the deck (excluding mucked cards), the deck is reshuffled & the river is dealt!! Correct me if i'm wrong but I believe this to be the proper way it's done!

read the question again flyer, it was impossible to tell which was the fourth card on the flop. You have the almost right answer to the wrong question.

Yeah he redealt whole deck but whole table agreed to leave pot as it was and even i got to play for the pot on the redealt hand even though i wasnt involved in the previous one so dats why i was wondering.

The players retain their hole cards, the players who have folded shouldnt get new hands, all cards EXCEPT the live cards and the folded muck (ie the remainder of the deck, the 4 exposed cards and the burn card) are rewashed/shuffled and a new flop is dealt. Play continues from there.

This happened on Len Collin's table in Vienna and Thomas Kremser gave this ruling (which I would have also given tbh).

The logic behind the ruling is:

The cards that had a chance of coming out on the flop are put back in the shuffle and have the same chance of coming out as they did the first time. No new cards should be introduced and the odds up to that precise point do not change. The same people are there, with the same cards and a flop will be dealt from the same remaining cards. This gives the closest result to what might, may, coulda woulda happened.

DeV are you sure Kremser gave this ruling? Normally the burn card stays and a new flop should be dealt without burning a card.

What happened in the OP sounds like a terrible mistake from the dealer who should have called the floor if he wasn't absolutely 100% sure of the correct ruling. I can't imagine any floorman/TD ruling that the pot would stay and everyone get new hole cards.
