    Hey everyone,

    my plans to go interrailing recently fell through and I'm going to have to get a J1 Visa and decide where to go pretty quickly. What I want is to go somewhere that;
    • Is near New York
    • Has a beach
    • Has lots of other J1 people my age to get to know
    • Is relatively cheap/easy to find jobs

    Anyone know of a good place? It's not strictly necessary to be near New York

    Any other important bits of advice I might need? What to expect, what not to expect, what to avoid, etc?

    Thanks for any help, I'm desperate!

    Go to Montauk on the northern end of Long Island. Its quite small but full of Irish J1ers and locals who are of Irish decent. On a Sunday you can get the Sunday Independent, its nearly like home. Don't worry if your not over 21 for a drink the bouncers on the Tipperary Inn are Irish on a J1 themselfs.

    Ann Bryers* (spelling??) cottages for a place to stay, Jim the owner is sound even though he charges 800$ a week for a 1 bedroomed shack. But in saying that didn't see anywhere better for the price my friends were paying. You would want to book that now though.
