In a match fight, not a street fight, as we do not want to be on the ground in the street, least the attackers buddies decide to do Riverdance on your head!

    So In a match fight...

Boxer Vs Wrestler (or BJJ dude)

Who is the odds in favour of?

Wrestler. Boxer has no ground skills. Boxer wouldn't be used to someone trying to take him down.

It depends if the wrestler actually thinks to wrestle and not stand. there are alot of variables involved, but the wrestler should have the upper hand. We're talking 1993 here. All these questions should already be answered.

Yes boxer gets taken out in UFC 1 in seconds (with his one glove on, and covered in oil)

Actually here for fun, at the end of clinch work, I have taken the legs from under some of the Thai fighters, put them on the ground, and put a very begginnerish arm bar on... once they hit the ground, they actually freeze, like a rabbit caught in head lights. Its sort of funny, their tough tough guys, and take them out of the environment (stand up & clinch) and they panic.

It shows how handy ground skills are to have, if someone is taking the pee a wee bit, and you want to humble them, without busting them up!

Gerry go and find someone who teaches Muay Boran and try that!!!!!;)

Remember that your training with guys who are pure stand up Thaiboxing(ringsport). There are very few schools in Thailand that do the old stuff, but you will find them if you try..there you will find the old ground work Thai style!!;)

Damnit Mill, got in with the UFC1 fight before me..
    That was some funny fighting.

Yes I heard of that Muay Boran!

Actually I am in a camp that Insists we learn the old Thai stuff,
but is is stand up mainly.

15 Master Tricks and 15 complimentary tricks.

Great names for the techniques. I will tell you some from my Notes tomorrow.
Names like : Swan with Broken Wind. You block attackers right cross, and break arm with downward elbow.

There was even a thumb eye gouge as a variation of one of the techniques!!

    Photos coming real soon!

UFC and MMA was much more interesting to watch (IMHO) back then, when people had different styles. like a Kickboxer Vs a huge Sumo wrestler...remember the Sumo slipped and the kick boxer shin kicked him in the gob, and the teeth flying!

Very Unhealthy Sport!!! :p LOL ;) Ahem.....!!!!

Well. is the question "striker v grappler", "olympic amatuer boxer vs olympic greco -romanist", "MMA guy v Pro Boxer" or BJJ guy v Boxer?

In my experience, the people that participate in sports, especially those that are big and in the olympics train for their sport and little outside the box. An amateur boxer of any merit, probably wouldn't take a fight against a wrestler, probably wouldn't have a clue about grappling and would not fight differently to his 50 previous boxing bouts. It would be the same with the judo or wrestler guy, he's fought this sport all his life, he's probably not prepared to get punched in the face.

I think the winner will be the person whose experiecne and training methods are most similar to MMA. If the wrestler has no submission skills, is he going to G and P his way to victory or Slam his way to victory? If the boxer ends up on his back, is he going to thru a KO punch from there? All unlikely.

At least the judo guy will have submission techniques, and against someone with gloves on, especially 10oz boxing gloves, he should get an arm bar.

But the MMA guy and the BJJ guy are going to have the MMA experience and are going to win against any of the other opponents assuming all things are equal.

yep i figure if a BJJ or MMA guy got hold of a striker, more than likely the striker would be in big trouble.

Just a few hours ago, I was clinching with a Thai guy, and when we dis engaged one of the other fighters, pushed me into the ropes for fun...sort of hurt a little, he pushed me real hard. so I ran at him, in fun (but ready to teach a wee lesson) , he lifted his knee, I tackled his legs, took him to ground, and put a wrist lock on, and made him suffer for a few seconds...in fun! LOL!!!!!!

so yeah I can see where the MMA guy will come out on top!!!

Millionarie, day by day, you get crazier and crazier. I don't know if it's thai life making you crazy or my interpretation of your behaviour.

Yup, I agree with you totally. Ever see The Ninja fight? :D Brilliant, due to this pre show boasting "We ninjas harness our energy from the earth..."

That fight your talking about is the UFC1 as well (Was a Vale Tudo lad who fought the sumo) :)
The kickboxer in that competition had been out of training for a while and only started 5/6 weeks before the comp !

Was a Vale Tudo lad who fought the sumo

It was Gerard Gordeau, a dutch savate champion. Gordeau was infamous for blinding Yuki Nakai (in one eye) at the 1995 all Japan Vale Tudo featured in Rickson Gracie's movie Choke.

    how did he blind him

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,398 ✭✭✭columok

From what I remember Nakai was on the ground heel hooking or ankle locking a standing Gordeau who was firing down shots at Nakai's face. Apparently there was a thumb or five in the eye. Nakai lost sight in that eye. He still won and went on to fight Gracie in the final.

My money would be on the grappler in a sport situation. In the street I reckon a decent boxer would win if he got the firt shot off. Although I guess it depends on the individuals.

    Baggio.

Yup - Nakai showed some courage in that fight to beat Gordeau. If anyone wants to see it, buy "choke" (a great documentary on rickson gracie) or the actual event itself japan vale tudo 1995.

I told you that was an Unhealthy Sport! ;)
