Charity Bet Challenge - Need some help

Local bookmaker kindly donated a €250 free bet to a charitable fundraiser I have been helping to arrange.

Since my track record is pretty sketchy and no one else in the group knows that much about anything worth placing a bet on I was hoping that somone here would step up to the plate with something special.

Only 2 rules I have to adhere to:
    1. The charitable event takes place on Friday evening so the bet must be on an event that takes place before then so that we can give the bookmaker some kudos as I suspect he will make some form of contribution anyway if we lose.

    2. We only get to keep the 'winnings' so if I put it on something that is 2/1 on we will come out with €125 if it wins.

    *crosses fingers*

Remember this is for a good cause so feel free to post and hopefully a few people will be in agreement and point us in the right direction.

Worst thing that can happen is a winner isnt picked and if I was to do this myself I can assure you all a winner probably wouldnt be picked.

The quality of the racing before Friday won't be great so it might be worth putting it on a football match with some decent champions league games this week.

I would be less confident about the football than I would the racing. Although I fancy Chelsea to go out I believe that Barcelona may just be happy to play for a draw. Rangers are probably a safe bet to go out also but again it may end up a draw as there is no real pressure to over exert for a win as Rangers are the ones that need to score. Juve should mop up also but after conceding two late goals in the last minute of the first leg to lose 3-2 again I am not as confident in them. The other matches I have no idea how to call.

If it was my own lolly I wouldnt be too pushed but since there is potential upside for charitable purposes I guess there is more at stake :o

If you must bet I would do the following. Put €25 e/w on these, all running in Southwell today:

    1.40 Amanda's Lad
    2.10 Crusoe
    3.10 Doctor Denis
    3.40 Noble Edge

And €50 to win on Romil Star in the 2.40

    Good luck!!

What I would do, to GUARANTEE a profit of some kind for yourseld:

Put the £200 on say an evens money shot, then take your own money and lay it off for £100 on Betfair at evens.

If it wins you are+£100 overall, if it loses you are+£100 overall but Im not sure you will be allowed to do this by bookmaker/organisation ie allowed to get your own money mixed up in it.

If a bookmaker is offering evens finn, you would need to offer about 5/4 on betfair to get matched.

Yes it will be slightly higher alright, maybe not quite 5/4 though. Still it would guarantee him a return if he can do this.

FTSE 100 up/down is a 50-50 chance and you get odds of 5/6 either way I think from the prediction.

To be honest though, I don't think the guy lays on betfair anyway, so It would probrally be best just to go with the bets. It is supossed to be a fun charity bet, so I doubt the whold betfair laying thing would be an option.

If you don't mind not making a huge profit this short priced accumulator should suffice

    Stenhousemuir 3-10
    R. Madrid(+1) 4-9
Barcelona Chelsea (under 3.5 goals) 1-3
    Marseille 4-6

    3.17-1

As long as I can come out with about €200 for the charity I really dont mind short odds as it still effectively secures a nice contribution rather than a higher risk which may result in nothing for them.

Every little bit makes a difference to them, however last year when the bookmaker did a similar offer we went for a double with odds of about 10/1 and when it lost he still donated €100 as he knew it was a worthy cause and we really did try to get a winning selection.

Thanks for the advice so far - much appreciated. I would prefer to avoid using the exchanges to cover any positions as it could me misconstrued by others involved in the fundraising who may not understand how it would work.

I may try say €25 of the bet-fund on a romil star which seems to be fancied and then another €25 on the accumulator that Pighead suggested.

If either of the above produce a return perhaps I can be more ambitious with some of the remainder of the amount available.

Will keep you all updated !

Any further suggestions are appreciated thanks.

Just in from work and it was lashing rain leaving earlier so ran for shelter under the bus stop rather than detour to the bookmaker as planned. Hope someone has ideas for tomorrow instead

my tip would be for THE JOB who is racing at 4:40 at southell.he stumbled out of the trap last time out and still finished well.he is up against pretty poor opposition and has won in this grade from stall 13 before which was very impressive.you should get a good price on him too.

FORECASTED TO BE 10/1.do it each way though because it is for charity.im going for the win though

Down €25 after sticking €12.50 each way THE JOB.

Also had €25 on Benfica to win :D (thanks to my wife for that one)

€200 left out of the original €250 to play with

    EDIT:
Thanks for the selection iloveireland, although this one didnt come up this time, my own account is well ahead thanks to your previous recommendations :)

    Do this tomorrow:

    2:00 Towcester - Balmoral Queen

    1:50 Wincanton - Promotion

    2:20 Wincanton - Chabiral Minster

    3:30 Wincanton - Raregem

Do some manner of a sexy multiple.

Then back United each way in the Imperial Cup on Saturday. Currently around 10-1
