Problem installing USB harddisk

    Hi,

Just purchased a USB1.1/2 harddisk enclosure and having some difficulty getting it to work.

I'm using it on a Windows XP laptop, through a USB1.1 port with a 180gb hitachi deskstar drive installed in the enclosure. The hard-drive was previously used in a modded xbox. Following the instructions provided with the enclosure, I install the drive into the enclosure (I've tried installing it as both master and slave), and connect it to the PC via the USB. Windows recognises it as a USB mas storage device and installs it automatically (as the enclosure's domumentation says it should).

However, it does not show up in My Computer, and when I go to Disk Management in Admin Tools, it doesn't show up there either.

Anyone had this problem, or have any ideas as to a solution?

    Thanks in advance!

Was the hard drive unlocked when it was removed from the Xbox ?

I'm not sure. How can this be checked? I still have the XBox knocking around so I can stick it back in and check.

Not sure on how to check it with a PC, I would think putting it back in the Xbox and making sure it is unlocked would be the easiest route unless there have been newer tools for unlocking HD's with your PC made available. All I could see on Xbox Scene was this tool for unlocking them through DOS, I thought I heard of a newer tool that worked under Windows but I could be mistaken.

Edit: This is what I was thinking of but if you have the original xbox that the HD was locked with just go with the Xbox to unlock it.

It is a longshot but once I tried to run some WD diagnostic tools on a WD Xbox HD which was locked and I got back an error message at the end of the screen saying "drive locked" you could try using Hitachi's dos based diagnostic tools to do the same before taking apart your Xbox.
