Replacement Digibox - Ive lost Some Channells...

    After around 5 years of use my Digibox packed in. I rang the installation company who told me that it would cost €140 to replace and install a new box, which seems like a rip off so I bought a brand new digibox off a mate, who works in the business, for €70 and fitted it myself, not a very hard job.

    I then rang sky and they re-tuned my new box, but I have been left without some channels including all the Irish and english terrestrial stations, my mate who sold me the box told me that the channels will come back over time, but they havent yet, sky tell me its a problem with my system and that the signal for these chanenels is not coming in and I will need to have a service technican call round and check it for a pricely sum of €110..

    Has anyone else had this problem and if so how did they fix it???

    It sounds like
    [a] tuner problem in digibox,
    lnb problem,
    [c]dish realignment

    your mate should Know that the channels wont come back by themselves with the problem you have. you will need a visit from an installer
    {shop around}

    My suggestion to you is this. Switch the box off. Remove the card. Switch it on and press and hold "backup" (on the box, not the remote). This will start a software update and hopefuly reset the boxs settings. Now when the box boots up and you have the familier blue screen with the banner. Insert your card. Press Services, Then press 0-1-Select on the remote and select New Installation. Just accept the default options and wait until the box finishes the channel scan. When you get a message about the phone line not being connected, just press backup. Now the box should show a blue screen and say Searching for Listings. When this finishes the box will tune to the Customer information channel. RTE should hopefuly work as any settings affecting the LNB would be reset to the defaults and the channel listings would have been updated.

    He means unplug mains and hold backup while reconnecting till all four lights come on. The front panel switch doesn't turn off the box at all, only mutes the RF and A/V signals.

    Because he says he has "No Satellite Signal is being received", I doubt that's the problem, the onscreen message woudl be different, like "This is the wrong card for this STB"

    Also, not to be ruled out, is faulty cable. Because RTE are low on the frequency spectrum, they can be one of the first to drop out if cable attenuates too much signal. But I'd say you do need an installer to check it out.

    A kink in cable can make some channels vanish.
