I was wondering if anyone knew from personal experience anything that can damage the internals of a digital slr?? i.e shaking it or vibrations.

My reason for asking is that i bought an Ortlieb ultimate handlebar bag for my bike and got the camera insert to go inside it.
I have it about 2weeks and haven't used it ,my reason is because i suddenly realised the shutter might get damaged with all the vibrating ,the insert for the camera is the same as the lowepro inserts.
I was thinking of wrapping up my camera in a T-shirt to soften the vibration if any ??? ,can anyone throw any light?

To be honest no idea, but I would imagine so. The high speed shutter at the back of a SLR (digital or otherwise) is quite sensative, so knocking it around on the top of some handle bars can't be good, especially if it opened right when you were coming down off a rock or something. I also doubt that wrapping it in a t-shirt or bag would do much.

But like I said, no idea. The higher range Canon models have shock absortion, but I think that is more for running after Kate Moss down a London street, than throwing your camera up and down on a mountain bike

I'd seriously recommend you keep it in a little backpack or something. My own SLR has taken a few knocks and kept working fine, but the constant vibration/rattling coming through handlebars — no matter what kind of suspension/padding you have — is bound to end up doing harm...

cheers pecker ,I had to bite the bullet and admit defeat with the bag ,altough it comes with a shoulder strap so i can use it when its raining as it's completely waterproof.
