Petition against €10 Oxegen schedule?

I've already paid €165.95 and I'm always absolutely disgusted at being asked to pay €10 to find out what time the bands I've just paid €165.95 to see are going to be on. It's so bloody ridiculous.

Do you think a petition against this on the Oxegen.ie forums would work?

My alternative is to display the times for all to see in a prominent position at the venue.

If its an online petition forget it.

DO NOT MAKE THIS AN ONLINE PETITION.

Theres nothing more useless than 50 pages of "l0l mcd r fagz.... h0ff 4 0xy!!!!!" because thats all you'll get.

If you seriously want to do this you need to get the media involved.. make it a pr nightmare for MCD. Make it a postcard campaign.. get everyone who supports your idea to send you a postcard and then when youve a few walls full of them get in a reporter to take a photo.

A few of the papers would love to jump on a story like that.. especially one of the free morning ones who do nothing but this sorta thing.

Also just so you arent shunted out by a technicality the times are up in the info tent but its not logistically possible to get even a tiny percentage of people in there to copy them down during the weekend. The alternative should be they are put on the website. MCD will not give ground on this easily so be prepared for a bit of a battle.

Dont do this unless you want to actually do it right or it will just become yet another useless undirected mope by all involved which achieves nothing.

Ha ha ha ha ha they'll probably crack a rib laughing at your petition. "I've paid my money but I'm not unhappy enough to stop you from taking some more..." I can see that going down a treat

Here's how to do it properly:

If you want to bring ticket prices down don't pay the ****ing high prices! Yes, you and your buddies will have to bite the bullet and not actually pay the stupidly high ticket fees, then they'll take notice. They won't give a **** if you have fivehundred thousand signatures on your petition, once you've paid the prices will go up again next year, so it's actually your fault for these things being so bloody expensive. Don't pay the €10 and bring your ticket back and demand a refund, stating that you are being denied information about the event. Then don't go. If those crazy chili peppers are playing to an empty field instead of 80,000 bouncing yet slightly-irked-over-being-ripped-off-again kids you can guarantee they will change. If you pay the money (which you already have) they will just make it more expensive. Why? Because once they have 80,000 saps who haven't the backbone to say no to this nonsense they will always have the bank manager smiling and that's why it's called the music business.

    To sum up:
If you let them get away with it and pay regardless this year, it will be more expensive next year, no matter how much you whinge on line. Sorry for being so blunt about it but since you brought it up....

Yeh a total boycott of the event would be a perfect solution but impossible. Seriously there is no way to organise something on that scale about what is essentially a trivial matter. Eventually market pressure may have the same effect but for the moment its a pipe dream.

As I said go for the PR angle. There was a bit of squirming in front of reporters from both MCD and Aiken last year over the timetable issues so the press is interested. I think they both flat out lied and said the schedules were online (in Aikens case true if only because of a leak).

You need to get a campaign that can be seen by everyone (so not just online), that can answer back against the promoters lies, and is willing to keep making noise until they give in.

Dont bother if you arent willing to do this.

They won't care. If people don't take a (real) stand against this then it will continue. What are you threatening them with... bad publicity? Do you really think when they're charging €20 to park a car in a muddy field they give a **** about bad publicity? As Bobby Fleckman corretly pointed out, "Money talks and bull**** walks". If you can't organise a boycott then seriously don't waste your time. The only thing that will hurt them is if you hit them in the bank balance but since nobody has the grapes to make a stand just get used to being screwed.

As soon as the timetable is leaked (which usually happens in the 48 hours before the festival) stick it into an email and forward it to everybody you know. Not just the people who are going. Get it out there. The Irish are demons for mass emails, we may as well have one that's useful.

  • as lodgepole stated, the timetable will be leaked..

i printed off about 25 last year and just handed them out to people..

others were just fools "i want the dog-tag yokes"

    idiots

When I was there last two years ago there was no schedule leaked online that I knew of and nothing posted on the Oxegen site before I went. When I got there, all the neck things were sold out and, apparently, they said the schedule would be on the big screen when it wasn't. It was only afterwards that I heard that the schedule was posted in a small tent in a hidden corner of the site. Luckily I was able to copy it down from somebody with a neck tag. Anyhoo, that year I was fed up with the disorganisation and decided never to go again. I didn't go to a festie last year 'cause I was savin' for a holiday but this this year it's EP for me.

Just print it of the internet and don't buy it?
    And to answer your question.
    No it won't work.
    60'000 * 70= 4200000
    That's all they care about.

As far as I remember two years ago it was printed by Hotpress but only available to subscribers of their online edition. Some kind soul reprinted in right here. That's how I got it in 2004.

I like the idea of printing off 25 and handing them out. That's a level of decency that you don't see too often. You could potentially print off 25 sheets with four or five wallet sized time tables on them. Small effort to help out a lot of people.

Of course the newest problem with Oxegen is that they rarely stick to their timetable anymore.

LAst year they had the full list of times that bands were playing at at the information tent near the halfpipe. It was near the entrance so logical place to put it

Maybe just maybe MCD have relented on this one, from MCD site: "

As always more of the best music, stage times and attractions will be announced over the coming weeks and months

Last year I bought one, for €10 and then they sold out and a guy came up to me and offered me €20 for mine. So, of course, I said yeah.
I then found one lying on the ground in perfect condition. It was sweet.

Especially if some billionaire bought every house up and then sold them for twice what he paid. People missed out who couldnt afford them at the time.

I've been to the last four and last year was the first time they didn't put any band times up in the information tent. €10 to find out what times bands are playing at is a disgrace on top of the ticket charge and the piss-poor expensive food.

I didn't get a ticket for this year as I feel they are just ripping people off. Car park fee's, park-n-ride and MTV's involvement have really pissed me off.

They didn't have any information in the tent last year so people had no choice but to fork out €10 for the lamanated pass.

is the food really that expensive up there? I kinda guessed it would but what are we talking about? standard concert type thing with a bottle of coke for like €2.50? If so is there ways of getting to Kildare/Dublin and back to go to the supermarket or whatever? or would it be worth it because charing €10 a return ticket? I know that you are not allowed bring a disposable bbq but the lads on the oxegen board were saying they were(godawful place that).... I think I'm just gonna go up stuffed and with loads of munchies at this stage.

On topic the €10 charge is ridiculous but i'm sure if there is a website or two with the times im gonna print em off for people (or maybe sell them to get a food!)

Also what's the recommendation with the amount of drink? all you can carry :D ? This'll be first time I'm gonna go up there so just trying to get a feel :) I always go up with too much anyway so I can see sunday night being a major sleeping/session session :p

Food on average you are looking at 8 euro for the equivalent of a Breakfast Roll in the campsite. Dont pay it! Theres precious little else in terms of variety there.

When the arena opens theres some pizza slices, noodles, burgers that kinda stuff.. all within the sixish mark. Its at least edible compared to the crap that you get in the campsite. There was a particularly nice place close to the second main stage that did a pretty decent burger last year.

At least allow 15 quid a day for food and non alcoholic drink if you are looking to do 2 "meals". If you are bringing food dont forget tents get extremely hot in the day so dont bring things that will spoil easily. Trust me you do NOT want food poisoning in Oxegen.

You can bring as much drink as you can carry into the campsite but nothing "officially" is allowed into the arena. Be warry though that if youve to walk a while to get to your camp you will start to feel it if you are carrying a lot. Glass bottles arent allowed but you dont really want them as they only add weight.

Also last year they werent allowing people back from the campsite to the carpark on the Friday for some strange reason (this seemed to be some arbitary rule that some people enforced others didnt). So be prepared to bring everything in one go or at least enough booze for friday night with your gear. Or you could just say that you need to get an inhaler from your car or something and Im pretty sure they'll have to let you out.

The Oxegen website actually says that the stage times will be announced in the coming months, so maybe we won't have to pay to see them after all!
