Carole Nash's "Scheme"

Was at the Bike Show today and went to Carole nash's stand to get a quote as I always do.

I got my first quote 3rd party only fine. Didn't sound too expensive but I haven't got my renewal from AON yet.

So I asked the age old question about being able to drive other peoples bikes, since they are the only company to offer this feature and I was told that I needed either fully comp or Tp/FireTheft. So I asked for a FT quote. At which point I was told that I would need to be 25 so I could join the "Scheme" for this and I did not qualify as I am only 24.

When I asked if that was actually legal she said yes as it was a scheme?

Does anyone know what the "scheme" is and how it allows them to deny me a Thied party fire and theft quote bassed purely on my age. Seriously how does my age affect the chances of the bike being stolen or burned, they have already accepted the details of my alarm/immob and where the bike is stored.

As background I'm 24, drving 6 years and have held a full licence for over 2.5 years and passed both the A1(was under 18 at the time) and A tests.

I'm not sure what she means by it being a "scheme", but refusal of FT or Comp insurance on age grounds is perfectly legal :(

The law requires all insurance companies to quote anyone regardless of age, but only for the legal minimum required insurance, i.e. Third Party only. They can pick and choose their FT/Comp customers. Why would they refuse it for younger drivers though?

    That explains it.

I don't think it's the fire and theft cover that they are holding back on it's the extended cover to drive other peoples bikes once the bike it insured by them.

I so frustrating that age has more influence that experience when it comes to insurance.
