Why is iTunes only playing 10 seconds of some tracks before skipping to the next one? Is it because they are shared mp3 files or what? Can I make it stop?

Check your preferences; probably just stuck on preview mode or something.

tried that, can't figure it out. It's doing it with 4 or 5 tunes, some taken from a cd and some not. Doing my head in.

Is it the same tunes all the time ? Are the songs on a different computer ?
This sometimes happens to me when playing songs from a server over an 802.11b wireless network to my iBook.
