Does it tell you this after a scan?
Or does it just tell you out of the blue, when you don't do a scan?

If it is the second one then I recomend as soon as it finds a virus/trojan run a scan, and at the end it should take care of the problems that it finds

Also, are you sure its your anti-virus that is telling you this? Because if you have XP Service Pack 2 and don't have a recgonised anti-virus installed windows will pop-up saying "Your computer might be at risk...."

Also some viruses and trojans will pop that up themselves, and usually clicking on them will result in your computer leading you to a website to download some anti-spyware

BTW, this thread would be much better in the Comp.Security forum

If you have something like Norton installed dump it & go get something like Avast Home Edition (which is free if you register it & miles better than Norton) and it should take care the system better.

After installing it schedule a boot time scan so it will scan the system before the entirety of the operating system loads and see if it catches anything.

I wouldn't change anything untill you fully understand WTF your existing security system is telling you ....

Could you copy the messages you are getting and paste them here ..... so we can all understand what we are talking about ....

Let us hope the the 'Security' Mods are on their hols ...it's Hollys only hope ....

Which OS - OK no need to guess since you have viruses.
    Which version of Windows ?

Which antivirus program or malware program do you have ?

Have you tried running the AV or whatever in safe mode ?

    BTW:
Security forum is about new types of threats, windows has been taken over in as little as 30 seconds of being connected to the internet. Historically, most of the time a fully patched copy of IE can be taken over by visiting a rigged web site. Unless windows has third party security apps, it almost certainly has malware on it.
