Quick rule question

    Hi all

Was playing in a house game last night. The board was J J 6 6 rag, 2people in the hand, one had QQ in the hole, the other had rockets. When the players showed their hands, the guy with the rockets said, "jacks and sixes", this was taken to be his hand although obviously it was aces and jacks, after a few words, guy with the rockets was allowed to take the pot.

So my question is, do the cards speak for themselves or is it the hand that's declared that sticks???

    thanks

Everywhere I've played the cards speak for themselves, but in a home game the house rules may be different.

Depends on the house rules but if it was just a game with a few mates i would just let the cards speak for themselves.

The normal rule is "cards speak".

When I started palying first we used to play where we had to decleare our hand. It didnt work at all. Arguments would arise below where somone said they had jacks and sixes, and somone else would say jacks and sixes with 4 kicker - silly stuff. In the end people would take ages to show their cards as they were making sure of their exact hand. Or they refused to say what they had at all and just put the their hand on the table; the cards speak from themselves actually evolved from people doing this (in our games, not historically).

Playing declare your hand just leads to trouble in my experience.
