Dell 933R PSU/motherboard

    Hello Everyone,

Just asking a few things. I have piles of old PC's/parts and wanna get some of them up and running. There is one in perticular I would like to get going, Its a dell 933R with a P3 933. When I plug it in the CPU fan starts spinning. Hold the power button and it goes off eventually. Also when I plug the power cable into it I hear like a click / Loud clipping noise coming from the PSU, And the case will vibrate a little. The PSU does this even if it is not connected to the motherboard or any peripherials. Also on the Motherboard there is an Amber light that comes on when I plug it in.

I have tried bench building it, Stipping it back etc... nothing out of it. I have tried the P3 in another PC and its fine and I tried another P3 in it and same problem so i dont think its the CPU dead.

I was wondering if it is the PSU or motherboard that is dead, Can I use a standard ATX PSU or motherboard in this dell case? As I read things about dell using non standard PSU/power connectors. As I have plenty spare Standard PSU's and motherboards that would suite if it was compatible.

IF anybody can tell me what the story is with using a non dell PSU in this system or any tips as to why its not working or how I could get it to boot. Any are appreciated.

    Thanks,

    Hj

If you have a spare PSU, it would take 2 mins to see if they are compatable (does it fit?) or not. Generally not. Maybe better off to find another standard p3 pc and use the chip in that (if it has a lower grade chip to begin with).

Well it fits, IIRC trying But the pins mabe different and Colour of cables are in different places... And the P3 also has an aditional Blue + white 6pins/cables( mabe 8 ) plugged onto the board. Its like them P4 connectors that nobody uses.
