Buying A Laptop Off Ebay !!

Call me a sceptic , but when I lived in London ( back about 18months ) I was happy to buy off ebay and never really had any problems with it. The stuff I used to buy never went over 200 quid so it wasnt major money to me at the time, should it go horribly wrong. But now im looking to get a decent gaming laptop ( my job is going to take me away more ) some prices on ebay seem too good to be true. For example I have been in contact with some guy in the states who reccons he can get me a Dell xps laptop medium spec decent graphics ( 256mb 6800 GF ) for $850, now to me all he will do when I part with my hard earned cash is mail me " bend over " and smile !!:D . Is it a scam or can anyone say they got a genuine deal / bargain with a laptop on ebay.
Just so u dont ask, he was not a seller with massive feedback...i know i know what ur gonna say next , but should i only go with someone who has 8 million feedback results ..
YOUR SARKY COMMENTS PLEASE !! only joking, but inevitably there will be !:D

    Its a scam..
If you are buying large items such as a laptop only use people with a high feedback rating, its so easy to get shafted. Also you should always see a pic of the laptop, not something off the manufactures website  .

if you're buying something expensive, pay through paypal (its safer). Also, only buy it if it is covered under one of ebays buyer protection plans. That way, if you get ripped off, you'll be able to recover at least some of your money.

and remember ... 'If it looks too good to be true, it probably is" ....

    now that's not sarky surely .... :p

Also watch out for fake ebay emails showing the seller has x amount of money frozen to cover the laptop should something go wrong and DO NOT USE WESTERN UNION.

Yeah, be very careful buying anything of high value from ebay. I got shafted by some pr1ck in the UK that I bought a phone off - it arrived in the post and worked fine and all, until i brought it to england the following week - where it was barred from all networks due to being reported stolen/lost. Fortunately I was able to get the money back through paypal.

On Ebay I live by this motto. I nearly got stung on an Apple Powerbook 17" for 1000 pounds when they actually cost close to 2,200 pounds.

This seems like a scam. Don't believe the feedback either. These guys sell lots of low value items to get a rep' then go for the kill.

Be very careful and make damn sure there is some sort of comeback or warranty on it.

It's still possible to make decent savings by buying on ebay. I bought my projector on ebay and saved around 400 euro doing so.

As the others have all pointed out, caution is the key word. It's better to lose ten bargains than get shafted on one big ticket item.
