there will be around 15 of us so is the place likely to get crowded early or not? thank you for taking the time to repy to me :).

also does anyone know if conradh na gaeilge would let us in?

I think the Quays bar in Temple Bar has trad bands in a lot of the time.

What kinda trad are you into? Artists?

Martin Hayes and Dennis Cahill are playing in Vicar street on the 16th, that would be an excellent gig, but would not be suited to a 21st birthday bash

the cobblestones in smithfield sometimes has good trad sessions

Well, first of all Happy B'day! :D

Have you thought about Ceoltais(spelling!) in Monkstown? Not sure if they would have anything on, but worth a shot. Maybe O'Donoghues . . .

    Enjoy it anyway!

O'Sullivans on Westmoreland St. has trad music a lot, but can be very packed.

The Vat near Central Bank also puts on Diddly-Aye music at some stage as well.

Me, I avoid such fcuking places like the plague, but... It's ur birthday!:D

I think the Cobblestone has trad every night - they used to anyway. The owner is the spit of Bill Clinton. A good spot.

Yep.. The Cobblestone would be my recomendation as well.

You'll get very touristy stuff in most other places.

That's sadly a very common view among my generation at least. Peolpe tend not to have an appreciation for real musicians be they trad or classical.

Yeah Cobblestone is probably your best bet, outside Dublin City Centre (is it right to use caps for the 3 words there?) Johnny Foxes is great for a 21st, they pretty much let you have the run of the place and great music, and The Hazel Hotel has absalutely amazing bands, The Wolfetones/ The Dubliners are regulars for some reason.

Anyone else equate the word Trad/Trads with the gang and not the music, remember the Trads? what a bunch of nutcases, ahh thems were the days.

P.S shouldn't this be in the Dublin City forum??

I'd be more into the Davy Spillane/Matt Malloy/Lunny/Shannon stuff, does Cobblestones host this type of music? I don't think Dubliners/Tones fit into the Trad Genre.

The Cobblestone is much more the Davy Spillane stuff - It's trad that you'd get in Doolin. Some pretty acclaimed musicians play there. The owner's brother is one of the top uilleann pipers around.

Not sure if they'll have music tonight, but Conrad na Gaelige?

Well, if you don't mind speaking a bit of Irish like, it's really good craic.

Been there 4 or 5 times on a tuesday, and it has proper trad music.

The Temple Bar in Temple Bar. No cover charge but the drink is pricey.

Gogerty's in Temple Bar... second floor... resident trad band in there every night and they're really good ...decent beer garden, plus it's close to buskers, Qbar, Club M, Reds, Keyote if you plan on going clubbing after (although it's open till 2am if your not).

Only warnings are that it gets absolutely packed at weekends, think it would be full enough on a wednesday night...also the drinks are vey expensive (about €5.10 a pint).
