I'm looking at different ranges in flashguns and noticed the Canon 540EZ.. seems reletivly cheaper than the EX range, whats the difference?

I have a Canon EOS 300D and always use it in Manual mode. Looking for a bigger flash to cover more in low lighting, and create different lightnnig effects when shooting some 'original' different shots.

    Whats recommended?

I do nikon, but it may mean that it isn;t compatable with the digital metering and is only for film cameras. The new digital metering has a whole range calculation thing ahead of film which they brought out a new range of flashes for.... just a guess though
