The Depression of Variance

I've just won 7 Stt's in a row. Which is my best run I'm sure. BUT before that, on Thursday night, I lost at least 7 without cashing in any. This put me on a major low. Not tilt or anything just feeling rotten. I knew I didn't make any real mistakes and that I got sucked out in most of them. I started thinking is it all luck? or am I really terrible and its just been luck til now?

At the moment I feel unbeatable. 7 in a row, and 3 of them where 10 seaters on VBP where only the winner gets paid.

My question is how do you deal with the emotions that come with a loosing streak in poker or rather how should you deal with them?

You have to just hang in there. If you happy that you are not making mistakes then eventually it will turn around. Try to treat every game as 'A New Beginning', if you are on a bad run its too easy to approach each one in a negative frame of mind.

    Scott,
i have ran bad more times than you can imagin.
i have ran worse than i ever thought possible and thought of giving up few times.then you go and win MTT and think your gods greatest gift.
what i feel will get you through bad times is knowledg.
the more you know about the game the better you can cope with the swings involved.whats worse is you tend to play worse than your best when running bad.if you can take break while running bad i find it helps alot.
obviusly taking a break will not have an effect on variance however it will have an effect on the way you play.

I'm back in the game now after a week off(holiday, skiing) when i came back i droped over half of my bankroll and couldnt win a thing. My problem was that i was getting bored after about 13 hands into a tourney if it wasnt going my way. Anyway after a week of frustrating games I am managing to get back my bankroll, allthough it wasnt a huge loss as I play for peanuts.
