Lost XP Installation disk

    Hi, just a question,
    I`ve just realised i lost my Xp installation disk, i still have the licence sticker on the original packing, so i was wondering if i get a copy from a mate can i use this with my licence in case i need to reinstall XP.

    Eh im not sure, that would be using his copy..but then again it would be with your license number. Id say contact MS and they would send you a new cd.

    AFAIK, it depends on whether you have an OEM or retail version.

    I think if you ring MS, they will send you a new disc. Knowing them though, they'd probably try and charge you.

    The license for Windoze is actually for the software not the media so there is no problem using your friends cd with your license key as long as they are both the same version. i.e. Both OEM or both Retail.

    You may run in to problems if your friend's XP is a recovery cd. Then it will be hardware specific. ie If its a Fujitsu Siemens PC then the recovery cd will only work on a Fujitsu Siemens computer.:)

    A lot of PC's no longer come with CD's but have a util on the computer to make a disk - if you post the make/model someone may know if it applies to yours.

    They used to charge £26+Vat+Delivery for replacement media. That was a long time ago. Microosft connections for Retail versions. But they may fob you to the PC supplier if it's and OEM version ( one of the reasons why OEM is cheaper )
