Radiohead and Morrissey set for summer visits

    03 Mar 2006

Two much-anticipated acts will be making their way to Dublin in just a few month's time.

While the precise dates have yet to be confirmed, Hot Press can exclusively reveal that Morrissey and Radiohead are both playing separate gigs this summer in Dublin’s Marlay Park.

Thom Yorke and co are being supported by Beck who’s currently readying a 10th anniversary edition of Odelay. He’s also applying the finishing touches to a new album that he’s been assembling for the past two years with A-List producer Nigel Goodrich.

According to a well-placed source, Radiohead are also close to completing a new record, which is likely to feature ‘Bodysnatchers’ as its flagship single.

Delighted neither of them are playing festivals.

indeed! i always prefer seeing a band on their own terms - a better set usually and less of the just dragging out the hits thing...

This will probably be under Bud Rising label like last year. Expensive shítty beer!

Radiohead and Beck are a good combination though.

Love the fact that Radiohead are doing their own gig alright. Hopin for some crackin support this year. And yeah, I reckon this is all gonna be under the Bud Rising umbrella of gigs!

Heres hoping they'll still include Ireland in the club tour of the UK!!

Sounds strangely familiar to the V-festival headliner lineup.

Not with Chilis and the Who confirmed. Slane would be cool but if Marley is true the it won't be slane.

I've rumour of them doing ox aswell but yeah...

There was never any chance of them doing Oxegen. MCD wouldnt hold back on a big name like that if they had it in the bag and theyd have fed it to the rumour mill if they were just waiting confirmation. Your signature is really annoying btw le rack hurry up and sell those tickets.

I don't think that club tour is going to happen. There's been nothing mentioned about it since some vague comments by Ed O Brien.

    Your rumours are worth nothing

Radiohead & Beck, that'll be great! I'd love for it to be at Argillan Castle, better venue than Marlay Park but at least it aint Slane :D

Well according to Rolling Stone, Beck is planning on playing a few gigs with Radiohead. Signs are all positive!

thom & beck have even duetted in the past, it's his own business if he's a scientologist tbh

Beck supported Radiohead at Radiohead's homecoming gig in Oxford in 2001.

Incidentally they have just been confirmed as headliners of Rock En Seine in Paris on 25/26 August, so a Dublin date the week before ties in nicely with this and V Festival.

I definitely be getting tickets for this!!

    But it's within walking distance!

I've been to a lot of the Marley gigs, sometimes the sound can be dire if you stand too far back (White Stripes were deafening within the pit and barely loud in the main bulk of the crowd) but sometimes the PA and a good engineer can get it just right (Chemical Brothers!). I reckon Radiohead's engineer is up to it after their tent tour.

How do you know where I live? :-0
I live in D2 so it's not exactly walking distance. I can get the bus, just would have preferred to drive it :)

I went to REM there and we parked about a 10 min drive away and walked, the walk through the park to the gig area was the longest bit but the traffic was mayhem so it was well worth it.

Will certainly be going to this! Hooray for Radiohead! Hopefully the new album will be out before they play

i thought i was the only moz fan in the world or in this thread now, lol

I wonder who's going to be playing Ardgillan this year? I think permission for 4 concerts has been given. It would have been good if Radiohead played there instead of crappy Marlay Park.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,609 ✭✭✭comet

Arcade Fire supposed to be playing Marlay Park too.
never been there, everyone says its a crap venue. I'll be seeing Morrissey indoors, saw Radiohead when they were making the kind of music I was in to so I'll be giving these gigs a miss.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,953 ✭✭✭blu_sonic

I Doubt That They'd Fill The Venue Yet, I Was Looking At Them On MTV2 And I Was Wondering Where They Could Play Over Here They Are Well Know By Our Kind But They Aren't So Well Know By Everyone Else

I keep hearing multiple Arcade Fire rumours... where are they coming from? I see no indication they will be touring this summer anywhere.

Stop the teasing about Arcade Fire people... it's getting me too excited.

Didn't they say they were basically taking this year out to record the new album? A truly magnificent live act though, their set at Electric Picnic was one of the best I've ever seen.

Arcade Fire are NOT playing, they said they wont tour til the release of the next album.

Does Morrissey play any Smiths songs at his gigs, or is it all his solo stuff?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 6,300 ✭✭✭CiaranC

He did a few Smiths numbers at the point last year.

he sprinkles a few smiths tunes in, on the amazing DVD who put the M in Manchester he does 5 smiths, 12 of his own, 1.5 covers.

there was a time when he started gigging solo first he wouldn't play smiths tracks, he has said he will always finish on there is a light that never goes out
