Sorry - "master of all I survey" is not an option here, so I cant possibly comment ;)

You only need to be a 'C' or 'D' player to be an 'F' player.

It was just meant to be a bit of fun. It's not an exact science but i thought it might be interesting

    B

I can beat bad players but I can't beat donkeys. My girlfriend beats me on a regular basis. She complained last night that I never let her play big games. I told her that her jammyness isn't enough to win. I said if you win 3 HU in a row you can have my ticket to thursdays Gresham game.

If you are playing this game next thursday don't get involved in any pots with her. She is as a funking luck box.

    B1tch!

Maybe, but, how is she at poker? :D

    I think (hope?) that I'm a "D" player.

Tournament play I would like to think that I am a high C or low D, but this may be self-dillusion. Cash game play I think I am lately a Y (working backwards from A, not forwards) cause I can't seem to do anything right lately. This is all live play I am referring to. Online is a kettle of fish eile.

I make a modest profit from poker. Therfore I must be better then average, so I'd call myself D

Cash I'm currently D, aand getting closer to E.

MTT I'd say high end of C to low end D but still a long way from E.

I suppose it's all relative to the people you play against. In your average live game I'd rate myself a C, online C bordering on D, and against the people I play with for a laugh in college E.

Unfortunately F doesn't really come into it :(

It all depends on the level of the brown liquid in the beeeg bottle (Full = C, empty = A-).

The postion of the moon can be important too for some reason...

    G or H.
You see i've got good luck, and i always keep a good record of the type of flops that have been coming out.
That's the reason that i'm so good i'm off this scale!

Just thought I'd let you know what the results were on this topic from the thesis I did last year on online poker players with a large sample. Asked to rate their ability from 1-10 (1 being worst):

    4 or less - 6.6%
    5 - 8.1%
    6 - 19.7%
    7 - 31.6%
    8 - 23.5%
    9 - 8.2%
    10 - 2.3%

Do you think you have any advantages over other players?
    Yes 89.1%
    No 10.9%

Do you believe that you may win a lot of money playing in the future:
    Yes 77.8%
    No 22.2%

I asked them all why they thought they had an advantage over others and they all answered the same kind of thing - that *they* play according to probability and *they* knows the odds etc.
But when I asked everyone how well they knew their poker odds, less than 14% said that they knew them less than "quite well".
Conclusion: a lot a delusional people who think that they have an advantage because *others* don't know or play according to the odds, whereas the vast majority do play that very same way.
Result: A lot of people paying rake and making no money but kidding themselves :)

Hotspur, I'd love to hear more about your research, any chance you'd start a new thread with some of your findings to start a debate. I completed your survey a while back when you were PM'ing people and I'd say some of the questions could lead to some very interesting discussion topics....

Thats sounds very interesting hotspur. Was it a thesis for college? what was it about? any chance of a read?

Two years ago I was C.
    Last year I was a B.
    Now I'm an A.

I've read too many books. Or is it variance?

    At the moment I'm a CBA ............ Can't Be A***d

  • Business & Finance Moderators, Entertainment Moderators Posts: 32,387 Mod ✭✭✭✭DeVore

Depends on the last pot .... sometimes I'm like "I'm an E bitch, and you better recognise, sucka!" and other times I'm like "omg I'm such an A, I should stop fooling myself and quit while I have my dignity".

I guess ultimately I would have to say C-D I've seen the D-E players and I'm not one of them. Currently. :)

    DeV.

ps: this totally depends on the style of poker. At Omaha I'm definite A-B material :)

This thread is a joke. 90% of all poker players think they are great, could play for a living if they really wanted to, and expect to be one of the best players every time they sit down at the table. They just aren't admitting it.
