    Hi Lads

Anytime I start Photoshop up the whole application just locks up and goes white. Its not the most detailed of descriptions but pretty much sums up exactly what happens.

I am trying out the trial version. Out of curiosity I installed the full version and the same thing happens.

See pic. My system is in my sig. XP Pro

looks like it wasn't installed fully, can you reinstall it ?

I have dude.. Removed it, installed it again.. Restarted after removal. Deleted all references to it in the registry and everything.. The setup program follows all the way through to the end as well.

The application actually starts up as normal but goes white when i click on it.. Have left it there for 5 mins in case it was going something

Could be a corrupt installation file which the installer will install by filename recognition but the actual file may be corrupt itself.

Photoshop works fine on my machine which is very similar in spec. Check the install cd - I wont ask the source of it.

I have tired installing 2 different version of it and I still get the same problem.. The problem persists even when no other applications are running..

What bit-depth mode have you set your graphics prefs to ? Check for the latest video drivers for your graphics system. Couldn't hurt !

    Found this info through Google:

    10. Re-create the Photoshop CS2 preferences file.

Re-create the Photoshop CS2 preferences file to eliminate problems that a damaged preferences file might cause.
To re-create the Photoshop CS2 preferences file:

    1. Quit Photoshop CS2.

    2. Rename the Adobe Photoshop CS2 Prefs.psp file (for example, to Photoshop CS2 .old) in the Photoshop 9 folder which will usually be located at C:\Documents and Settings\ [user name] \Application Data\Adobe\Photoshop\9.0\Adobe Photoshop CS2 Settings

    3. Start Photoshop CS2. Photoshop CS2 creates a new preferences file.

Uninstalling may not have deleted the prefs file so it keeps getting re-used.

    Why?
sometimes applications try to communicate through the internet i.e. updates etc. when a firewall blocks their connection or is awaiting user input as to whether to allow it access the internet the application may look like it is frozen when it is in fact just waiting to see if it can go online. Sometimes this dialog box asking for approval does not display or gets hidden behind another window so the user does not see it.

    Try this:

    1.Uninstall photoshop
2.Delete all folders it leaves behind
    3.Download Crap Cleaner here:http://www.filehippo.com/download_ccleaner/
4.Run crap cleaner, it will remove several hundred megabytes of crap;)
5.Click on issues, run the cleaner it will fix minor registery problems.
    6.Download regseeker here:http://www.hoverdesk.net/dl/en/RegSeeker.zip
7.save it to your HDD and run it, It will find lots of problems with the registery, unused file extensions and bits of photoshop, some problems will be "red" some will be "green" select them all and delete them. dont worry about breaking something as regseeker and Crap cleaner make backups of the registery so that you can restore it easily.
    8.Download NTREGOPT here: http://www.derfisch.de/lars/ntregopt-setup.exe
    9. Its short for NT registery optimizer.
    10. Run it, it will strip down your registery and rebuild it, and will tell you by how much it shrunk the registery.
11.Reboot and your PC will be as clean as a whistle, and run much smoother.
12.Now that photoshop is completely removed, try a re-install.

If it doesnt work after all that,

    Good Luck:D :D

I know nVidia drivers a while ago stopped paint shop pro from working, I wonder if ATI are having similar problems now with photoshop? (although I presume u've googled for that).

If you're really desperate, you could try uninstall the ATI display driver, and see if it gives the same problems. Could also be board related, as the A8R will probably have pretty new/untested drivers out for it.

It definitely sounds like a system issue rather than photoshop.

Oh yeah have no doubts it a system problem.. Only a recent install of XP too.

Is you're Dual core processer installed correctly??

Do you have the AMD dual core driver installed, does you're board support dual-core fully without a bios update, do you have latest chipset driver installed.

The reason i ask this is Photoshop is the only program you are having trouble with, and it is also one of the few programs that take advantage of dual-core.

DO you have the XP sp2 dual core hotfix done??

Here is a good guide on how to install a dual-core CPU

I have an ATI X600 with up to date drivers and photoshop is working fine on it... It does sound like a system problem... do u have enough resources available to run it... hav you tried unpluging hardware such as your printer scanner etc while your tring to run it?
